I'm going to be able to attend HC for the first time in many years and need some info from those of you more current than I am.

Are the on-campus decorations still worth driving or walking around to view on Friday night?

Is the Wreck parade still held on Saturday morning and is it worth watching?

The wreck parade is usually at 8am, but this year it's at 9am (much easier to get to)

OCT

RAMBLIN’ RECK PARADE
A tradition that began in 1932, the Ramblin’ Reck Parade rolls on!

It seems to me that the quality and interestingness of the homecoming displays (chicken wire and tissue paper) has generally decreased in the last few years, although there are usually still a couple of good ones.

I've only been to the Wreck Parade a couple of times (about once a decade since the 90s, I guess), and the Wrecks definitely seem lamer, less creative, and less "engineeringy" than they used to. The "get off my lawn" explanation is that we don't really have students who can weld and build stuff anymore, but they could probably make something awesome in Minecraft.

:bowrofl:

Whose bright idea was it to make FSU the homecoming game and then also make it the whiteout game?

The homecoming game being against a cupcake hasn't been a thing for almost a decade now. But cool joke!

Maybe it's because I did it twice but I have still enjoyed it. The start is crazy going down that hill, then the accidents, the inventiveness when the trikes break down and of course the awful grind of the final turn lap after lap...it's a good time if you are around enjoying the displays.

Does anyone remember when they did the soapbox race down freshman hill? I feel like it was a very short lived event on account of multiple people almost dying (then again, I was only really involved in the homecoming week activities like one year). The cars were absolutely flying down the hill.

I distinctly remember one of the sororities had a car, built by one of the fraternities, that was shaped like a coffin. The stability of the car got seriously challenged right in front of Bobby Dodd causing them to veer off course. Fortunately it sent them down yellow jacket alley instead of into a curb at 35 mph. Ah, good times.

Sad but true. How many college aged kids do you know who actually own a tool box?

Stop by Manuel's for a pitcher. Tell 'em I said hello. I'm the guy that wanted to buy a case of bottles and have them ferry 'em to us while we shot pool. Manuel's son told us we were idiots. Circa 70s.
