What do you expect to see on offense, defense, and the final score?

Offense- I expect to see CPJ to run some plays to try to get Nesbitt more comfortable into the offense. I think will pass more than people think in this game just to work on the passing game because lord knows its been terrible the past 5 or 6 years. I also expect to see one of the freshman qb's to get a few series just so we can start building some depth at the qb position. I also expect to see a true frosh start at A-Back (most likely Wright). I think he'll be in the conversation for ACC ROTY by the end of the season. I think CPJ will throw a few bombs down field and some nice short medium passes to try to complement the running game.

Defense- I think we'll see our DLinemans dominate the WHOLE game. MJ, DR, VW, and DM should be in the backfield all night. Look for alot of subbing at the linebacker position and in the secondary to try to get the right players together. I'm not really worried about the defense, except for defending the TE and the long passes.

Final Score- GT 48 JSU 7

What do you expect to see?

I expect our offense to make a lot of mistakes, but show flashes of brilliance. I think JN and JD will have a few long runs for TDs and maybe a run and shoot pass to Corey Earls for another TD. I expect 4-5 fumbles out of the offense as we continue to adjust to the spread.

Defensively, our DL will sack Perrlioux all night and day, providing he is the starter. They will have a very tough time running the ball and there will be a lot of pressure in the backfield. I doubt JSU will score a TD; they aren't even a good 1aa team.

Final score - GT 31 JSU 6

Agreed. Jacksonville could get some cheap points off of turnovers as we break in the new offense. Our defense will likely keep them out of the end zone but they could hit several field goals.

I look for a low scoring affair with a Tech win...say 21 - 9.

If the LSU transfer starts we will have a very tough challenge defensively. But, I don't think they will have the strength to stop the running game. If we don't give them points off turnovers, I think we will win 41-17. If we give them points, more like 38-27.

That LSU transfer has to be able to have time to throw and room to run. That offensive line just ain't going to be like the levy he was behind at LSU.

Honestly, I think he's right.

I expect our offense to run one of two variants of the veer for approximately 50% of our plays. But I expect it to work.

I fully expect to see Johnathan Smith to run in at quarterback for a 2 yard gain on a QB sneak.

I think PJ will score just as many points as he can, both to help the confidence of the offensive players, and because even when we're running the ball, the offense is geared for big plays. I think we will score 40+

Ncjacket - I HOPE you are correct. I fear a low scoring game...

I agree with you ncjacket. PJ will be out to impress the alumni, and it will be a good time to pull out all of the stops before the big games.

I think a lot of people still have the idea that a run-focused offense is "boring." Having grown up going to all the GSU home games, I can certainly vouch that this running offense is anything but.

I think we'll see a lot of flubs and miscues from backs and OL, and that we'll stop ourselves a lot. I also think we'll see a lot of long runs ala Samford last year. There will be a few long touchdown passes that completely burn the JSU secondary. We'll put up 30+, maybe 40+.

I think the Perilloux kid is good for 14-17 points. He will make a couple of unbelievable throws and a couple of nice runs. I think we'll win 35-14.

What do we do if they come out looking sharp and for once we don't have to head into November shaking off early-season rust?

Do we.. I mean.. will it be okay to cheer? Out loud?

Remember Gailey's first game when we lit up Vandy with 45 points and looked great. Then 11 games later the only way we could score against the mutts was to put Jonathan Smith in at QB and run the option???

Hopefully with Johnson our teams will improve each game.

I think the first game will have a lot of missed assignments and be sloppy on offense. However I think turnovers will be low because it will be highly stressed in fall camp (many extra sprints and up-downs after practice if you know what I mean).

JSU 10

GT 38
Jax State 0

I'll be very surprised if they score once on us...will be blown away if they score on us TWICE.

Umm, yeah it is. The whole point of the flexbone is to run the veer out of a spread set.

Paul Johnson, Frank Solich, Ken Niumatalolo, or any option OC will call for the inside veer when the defensive end has been giving the Outside Veer trouble or the linebackers are flowing over the top of the down blocks on the Outside Veer from the tackle and wingback. The idea is that if you take away one play, another will be open. The tackles in a flexbone offense (I was one in college) really love this play because the defensive ends have been used to not being blocked on most plays and they are not expecting a tough drive block coming right at them after they have faced a few Outside Veers.

We are running the option out of the flexbone, the veer is a set in itself in which you run the option out of.

Or am I mistaken again?
