Per the Stansbury podcast, we’re going to honor the 1990 team at the VPI/Homecoming game.

Anybody else think it would be nice to actually call the names of the players that are there? It always seems kind of lame when we just walk them onto the field and then off again.

Good on Tech for calling the names of the guys. Was happy to see that. Now the complaining…

They started the highlight video with no warning, so I missed half of it before I realized it was playing. If we can rattle bowels with bad rap music, how about a “turn your attention…” announcement?

I wouldn’t mind a little more energy (and better pronunciation) for the former players’ names, especially for the standout guys. It went by so fast, there was no time to appreciate a Shawn Jones or William Bell or Willie Clay or Ken Swilling.

No mention of Ross or Friedgen, who were not there. A video message or something from those guys would have been amazing.

The crowd was DEAD and could barely muster any applause for the whole endeavor. That was really sad.

Still a missed opportunity to really do something awesome, I thought. I guess we spent all our resources on the uniform reveal. :-)

Unbeknownst to me, I was talking with one of the OL from the 1990 team before the game started. I didn’t figure it out until I saw him walk out with all the other players at half.
We were just talking about the team and such. He asked me what I thought of Collins. I said he appears to be more style than substance, he needs at least 5 wins this year to move the program forward, and Key seemed like a good hire but the line doesn’t seem to be improving. He agreed with all of it. It was comforting seeing how even the former players know we should be better than what we are right now.

I was surprised to see GOL walk right past me pregame.

I walked past him on the street after the crap Tenn Benz game. He seemed a little pleasantly surprised at being recognized and greeted in a friendly and appreciative manner. Made me wonder a little. I love me some GOL. Hated what happened to him at ND. And hated that out crap administration didn’t welcome him back to Tech after that fiasco.

The performance that went with the ceremony was almost like pouring one out for the homies...if your cup was filled with dehydrated urine.

Yeah, GT sucks at ceremonies. I had some VT fans ask me if this is all we were doing to honor our only modern Natty. I didn’t know how to even respond other than our marketing team sucks. It was really just lackluster but that is what we are now - lackluster.

It has been this way for as long as I have been at Grant Field (the late 60's).

Truth. And we’ve had 2 or 3 opportunities to get it right with the ‘90 team. Are we limited by resources, time, creativity, or what? Does the AA just lack the passion for doing this up right that the fans have? Even if we suck on the field, we ought to be able to win at the halftime ceremony.

I see the effort that (at least intermittently) goes into branding, highlight videos, uniform reveals, social media presence, and all that. I wish we could also apply that to the gameday production.

Speaking of, can anybody tell me what the “more than just a ?” that gets yelled repeatedly in our pre-Wreck video is saying? We’re in year 3 of CGC, and (yes I’m old) the entrance still isn’t as exciting as “here come the Jackets!” running through a banner behind the Wreck while the band plays. I guess I should be happy that we’re at least coming out in proximity to the Wreck now.
