Too bad the refs had to ruin another great game, just to save ND's national championship hopes. The personal foul call on Wheeler and the non-catch overrule on Calvin were horrible. What the hell is their definition of "incontestable evidence" that it was a no catch?

Good call on the overturn, unfortunately.

Our O line is not doing us any favors. If can't run the ball any better than this, it's going to be a long year.

And our lack of depth is going to hurt us also.

I agree that that was a bad call, and one that turned the game at that point. However, I can't blame the loss on the refs. We had numerous chances to win, and we didn't.

I think the personal foul call was a good call after seeing the replay. However, the review of CJ's catch was hard to believe. If there was conclusive evidence as required, why did the review take so long?

You're right, the refs totally blew that call on the catch made by CJ. It also appeared to me that Quinn's knee was down prior to crossing the goal line on that TD in the 1st half. It also looked like a holding call got away from the refs on that same drive when ND was deep in their own territory.

Yeah, depth on defense killed us. With Reggie/Nix running their typical offense and ND having huge time of possession advantage in the second half, combined with the humidity, our guys just got worn down. They played great, but once they couldn't get the pressure on Quinn anymore, we were toast.

Some of that was due to ND's OL holding and us not getting the flag to fly.

I can not agree that the call on Wheeler was right. Quinn was running out of the pocket, past the line of scrimmage, well in bounds. Wheeler hit him high and Quinn is the only one of the two that lowered his head at all.

Either flag all helmet contact in college football all season long, or admit that call was strictly for Notre Dame and a Heisman candidate. Without that call they are kicking a FG, not scoring the winning touchdown.

On Calvin's catch, I would not have reversed a ruled incompletion based on the one angle ABC kept showing, but I am not sure would have overturned
the ruling of a catch. Mabe my bias kicked in, but I did not clearly see the ball on the ground, not in Calvin's hands.

Davie noted that on one of our final drives that ND was precariously close to getting a Personal Foul for late hit on Reggie, I know exactly what he was talking about, of course there was no flag thrown

Just got back and watched the hit by Wheeler, and it was closer than I thought it was at the game, but it was still a lame call. If Quinn didn't lower his head, there wouldn't have been helmet contact.

To make things worse, the "anouncers" made a point to say Wheeler was "using his helmet as a weapon" (multiple times). Didn't even acknowledge the that the call was questionable.

In the UCLA-Utah game the QB rolled out and turned upfield, he was grabbed low and stood up and a UCLA linebacker came in full speed, did lower his helmet, and rocked the Utah QB, knocking the helmet off the QB's head. Commentators? - Said a QB has to get down in that situation or they will take a shot.

If the rule is that incidental and unintentional helmet to helmet to contact is a personal foul, then Wheeler is guilty. Games will be even longer if this is called every time. Scoring will be higher if a tackler learns that if his helmet touches the other helmet when attempting the tackle a fifteen yarder will be called. There will be lots of reaching, less hitting, more penalties, and more touchdowns.

If this is the way the game will be played all year long - fine! But I believe as the season progresses we will find that the fact this was ND and BQ led to this call. This will not be called the same way all season. That's why it is such a big call.

It was called because it was BQ and it was ND. While the call didn't cost GT the game, it certainly had major influence on the outcome of the game.

No. The call was not made because it was Brady Quinn and Notre Dame. The call was a fair one, it's on the books, and I have seen it called many times. You never lead with the helmet, but especially not when the ball carrier is going out of bounds on the sideline. Thats inviting a flag.

In fact Quinn took 2 or 3 hits after he was outside the pocket and on the ground in the first half that could have been called. To see for yourself watch the replay in its entirety. I winced at the plays because I expected a flag but there was none.

Also, Brady didn't bitch and moan to the refs either. Maybe that is because he is Brady Quinn.

On the otherhand the call reversing the catch by Calvin Johnson was irresponsible and stupid by the replay ref.

I disagree. I have seen that call 'not made' more times than I have seen it made. After getting home and reviewing it a few times I still say it was the wrong call to make.

I proudly wear my GT tinted glasses and disagree with both questionable calls that went against us. They were not the worst calls I've ever seen, but they were both huge. On first or second down - not so big a deal. But, they were both third down calls - one kept alive a drive for a TD for the bad guys, one ended a drive for the good guys.

Just because a technical violation occurred doesn't mean you flag the penalty. Technically there is head to head contact every play.
