Just read where he turned down his alma mater Baylor. A Baylor grad would understand Gt a little and mike is a bright guy and a better player and a better person. I really hope we end up with a minority because it fits best for ATL, racism still is pervasive in college football and especially in the SEC south, AND recruiting would be amazing with a guy like this.

anyway, his comment, was he wasn't interested unless baylor was doing what was necessary to win a national championship. i think if he interviewed with DRAD, Rad would assure him he would do everything within his power.

MS is the assoc head coach of the 49ers and the article says most believe he will someday be an NFL HC. I think from a motivational perspective he is actually wired more to be a college coach.

What say you?

He has no HC experience, no recruiting experience, no experience in assembling a staff, no experience at all on a college staff. Never played or coached in the southeast. Never even interviewed for a college position.

Oh, but he IS black.

Ummm, no.

well he is black and a 3 time AA in college and a NFL HOFer, and a very smart guy who many think will be an NFL HC one day soon.

i agree the first year or two may be worse than now but long-term his upside is unbelieveable. besides the fact we would have a heckuva recruiting class every year and he would attract coaches from all over, odds are he will win whereever he lands.

BTW, Baylor just interviewed him and I'm confident would have offered him the job but he said it wasn't a good fit.

In Pasquarelli's article on ESPN he quotes Singletary as telling the Baylor AD, "...unless you're talking about doing what it takes to win a national championship, you're talking to the wrong person." Singletary essentially turned the job down after this conversation. In other words, he doesn't feel like Baylor could ever compete for a national title, and therefore won't take the job.

Although Tech is hardly the bottom-feeding Baylor Bears, he may feel that the restrictions and academic difficulties at GT would make winning too difficult, and similarly turn him away.

The point is that Singletary is on the fast track to a NFL HC gig... he interviewed at Dallas & SD last year (tho I'm not sure if he was seriously considered) and his name will come up for almost any vacancy this offseason (could be the next HC at Baltimore, where he got his start under Nolan just a few years ago). The man has options and certainly can afford to wait for the right opportunity...

As a college HC, he would be a moderate risk/high reward type hire, as his attitude and name would pull in tons or recruits alone, plus he has connections in the talent-rich Houston area and made a name for himself as a motivational speaker.

I feel like he is holding out for an ideal gig, and in his eyes Tech probably does not qualify...

It's ironic he should say this. If Baylor or Tech or any D1 school would hire him now, that school would not be doing what it takes to win a NC.

Love the guy for his intensity on the field, but no.

Put me down as in favor of any candidate with upside potential. Anybody with upside potential would be an exhilarating change around here....

Being black is not a qualifier. Other than that your argument that he's the guy doesn't hold up.

No.

LOL ::)))

When he was a kid, he always reminded me of the "Dutch Cleanser" lable picture kid. Never thought he would grow up to be a coach tho. And to think, there are those who would want GT Football coached by the kid whose picture was on the Dutch Cleanser can label.
