If you want to kill recruiting go back to the TO. You can recruit against Furman and Troy State all you want. I think we all agree if Gailey had hired an OC he would have had some 9 and 10 win seasons, his play calling was way to conservative and predictable. Donnie Davis would have been a star if things had not gone south under Lewis. We don’t have to be Army and Navy to win … that is bull crap. You get a dynamic, quality coach in here kids will come and play for him. The hardest position for us to recruit is the DL and going to the TO want help that one bit. One thing we will have to do is get off our pocketbooks, that is the real problem… not recruiting. We will have to spend some bucks to get a top notch coach, and then spend some more to keep him. Will GT supporters do that??? We’ll see……..

That's weird, when I went to bed last night it was 2021 but now I wake up and apparently it's the 2018 offseason again.

This is exactly what I was going to post after reading that drivel. Tech fans seem to be worse than most at rehashing decisions that are years and decades ago to avoid actively analyzing and problem-solving the present

We don't want the damn TO, we want a coach who can win more than 3 games and doesn't make a Tedd Roof defense look desirable.

Because rock-solid coaches with a pedigree, strong X's and O's, and recruiting prowess are just beating down the doors of GT to coach the worst program in the ACC for $3 M a year. How did we not think of this sooner, OP, we just need to hire one of them. We don't need to get creative and take some sort of schematic risk or personality risk.

Paul Johnson isn’t a great coach because of the offense he chose to run. He’s just a great football coach.

Find the next Paul Johnson.

But we were only able to hire such a great coach because of the offense he chose to ran.

It's not like we found a diamond in the rough or took a chance on an up and comer. We hired someone who everyone knew was a great coach but most didn't want because if his offense.

Let's face it. We are not going to out recruit the nearby factories. It was the reason we got CPJ, and it's why we did better with him than we are now. NCAA rules changes made it relatively harder for us to recruit (progress to graduation) and, then, harder to run the TO.
We can't go backward. The game rules changes have hurt the service academies. I have watched them, and it's pretty obvious. CPJ said that it's not the scheme that is important. It's how well you know your scheme.

The way forward is a guy who can punch above our weight in recruiting, scheming, game day coaching, and leading the program. That's a tall order, but if you're going to win, you can't be very deficient in any aspect. So, your head coach needs to know all of it, or successfully hire and manage what he doesn't know.

oh please :bfd:

stop with the ööööing woe is me bullshit.

we're a middle of the road ACC team.

Don’t forget Bill Lewis was a decent recruiter. This was before the rankings but he recruited one of the number one receivers in the country.

Chan Gailey was fired for only having 7 wins each season. That's more than double what G**** C****** achieves.
