How many bowl games will actually be held this year?

One no name bowl has already dropped. I can see the Pinstripe Bowl not being played along with the Nut Bowl, or whatever it's called now, out in San Francisco due to where they are located (and that's as close as I need to get in the football forum). Which others are likely to cancel?

The problem for some of the lower tier bowls is the risk of not having enough teams available to play. If B1G manages to get 8-10 games in by mid-December that improves the odds, and there will probably be no minimum number of wins required for eligibility. It probably depends on how short of a notice the bowls can cancel their contracts for venues and other expenses.

1) Rose
2) Orange
3) Fiesta
4) Peach
5) Sugar
6) Cotton
The rest of the bowls can suck it.

My main point is bowl games are so much more to the municipalities that put them on than just a football game. All of the planning for all the events surrounding the bowl is nearly a year round event. Not knowing what or how much can happen is a huge question at the moment. Add in that these bowls REQUIRE people coming and putting fannies in seats to help break even, is out of the question right now. The hospitality industry has taken an enormous hit these past several months and would love to have visitors, but if people can't buy tickets to the game, they will not show up. I know TV has offset a lot of the costs for these games and taken it off the local chambers, but still. I can see a number of the smaller bowls simply saying it ain't happening.

I think they will keep about half of the bowl games and get rid of all pomp and circumstance and just live off the TV revenue. Otherwise, there will be no bowl games except for the CFP (now that the Big Ten is jumping back in that will happen).

The key is where we are on vaccines, treatments and infection rates as the season ends. If fans can attend, the bowls will go on.

I’d do away with all the bowl games. They need to do a March Madness style playoff this year. Go ahead and eliminate the last game in every conference and start a tourney.

Make it a one time deal.

genius Wesley! You give up liquor or something?

Won't the bowls start before the Big Ten completes their "regular season" games? How will that work?

How ironic is it that the Rose Bowl is a short cab ride from either USC or UCLA? Man, that's gonna hurt.

If you don't bring fans and it's in January, who cares exactly when. Yes I can see some minor bowls featuring SEC V ACC or low level ACC v AAC, etc. being in their normal place but anything with Big10 will move to January I'd think. Who cares when it is?

It looks like 3 bowls with ACC tie-ins normally have a Pac-12 opponent:

Sun Bowl
SDCCU Holiday Bowl
Independence Bowl

The Holiday Bowl announced last month that they plan to play, even without the Pac-12 participation. It will be interesting to see whether these bowls realign with an alternate conference for this season, or if they just wait until December and make bids to a pool of available teams.
