for not doing the standard thing and offering Gailey sweeteners to not go pro. Clearly this was a salary blackmail attempt and DRad didn't blink which is a good thing.

Now why did Gailey get flushed from his comfort zone to interview so publicly for these jobs? Was it Taz and other influential alumni putting too much heat on him? Was it the DRichards shafting by Wayne Clough? Was it the embarrassment over the RB/TB quarterback gaff? Did DRad just tell him that 9-5 and 0-1 in state would not cut it?

I don't have any "sources"

But I really don't think this was a ploy to get a raise. I sincerely believe that Gailey wants to be in the NFL and so he pursued the chance. Not to say that there may not have been some feelings that he needed to go listening based on his situation at Tech but I don't think he was expecting a raise out of it.

The way he avoided answering the NFL question directly at the press conference solidifies my belief that he wants back to the NFL as a head coach.

Gailey didn't do this to for a salary increase. He did this because he wants out of tech for a NFL position. He tried at two different clubs and failed this month. As for Drad, he didn't offer a counter because quite frankly, I think he'd be pleased to have seen him go.

Geetee you're wrong. Gailey turned down his salary increase this year and after speaking with Radakovich myself he wanted Chan to stay.

I know you like to stir up this room but please when you say something please make it worthwhile to read.

Clearly this was a ploy to get a raise? What a joke! He worked with the Steelers & Dolphins. He was OC the last time the Dolphins went to the playoffs. He had standing relationships with both of the teams. Can you blame the guy for entertaining the thought of getting back up to the top? I can't. It was just a coincidence that both of these jobs were open at the same time. It's not like he was shopping around. The Cardinals didn't call him.

Wayne Clough shafted DRichard? What a joke! Clough has much larger things to worry about than a football player! Football isn't even on his map, and rightfully so - not his job - not a primary goal of our institute.

You people on this board that cite Clough as having any influence on football are insane. He is worried about international diplomacy and expansion of Tech. He is focused on making our institute prominent nationally and worldwide. He has a mission, and football is not part of it - and thank God!

You under estimate WC layemdown.

I've talked with several of the big supporters and the one thing that is the same in talking with them is WC is a problem to the football program.

You have no clue. First, Gailey wasn't looking for a raise he was interested in coaching either the Steelers or Dolphins. And if it's the pressure, all he has to do is get fired and take his money. Sometimes the "logic" on this board defies description.

Only dawg fans post Tech with the little t

As for some of these other replies,

"if you don't like the message, attack the messenger".

Let me remind you how right I was about Reggie Ball while some of you vilifying me here were saying "Reggie was better than Taylor in practice" and "if Chan says Reggie's the best we got then it must be true".

You'd think you guys would learn

I agree with you on Reggie, ramblinwise. I feel that the fact that he was a starter rested on Gailey's shoulders. The fact that he never really put TB in for a "real" game situation to see how he would react, I don't know. However, Reggie is gone now. How this plays out, I'm anxious to see.

Refrigeratormover, I wish I was close enough to the Tech program to know anything. It is reasoning that leads me to believe that the biggest problem he poses to the football program is through negligence. I, however, support Clough and everything he does. Our academic reputation has flourished under him. Our campus has improved through facilities turnover. We continue to attract students through our facilities and specialized academic programs. Additionally, he is well-respected in his field(s).

I don't think his MO is to attract in-state students through athletic programs, see our counterparts in athens for that. It is exactly the opposite - to attract out-of-state folks to our academics and career services.

Just curious - can anyone think of anything that uga offers academically that they are specifically strong? Florida has strong Building/Construction, FSU & Miami have good music schools, Clemson & NC State have architecture & engineering programs (I don't know how good they are). In what do other SEC and ACC schools specialize, academically?

The dawgs I know thump their chests over their law school and their pharmacy program

You could be right about pharmacy. However, I don't think a liberal arts school in the south can "specialize" in law. All of the second-rate liberal arts schools have chicken-fried law schools.

Anyway, Emory has the best law school in Georgia.

Georgia's pharmacy school is average at best. In fact, South Carolina has a better reputation nationally (the woman who invented the patch was there). On the other hand, UGA, like Grady hospital, may have the best gunshot wound pharmaceutical program in the nation. They're probably pretty good at giving pills to barnyard animals, too. Watch out for the pill the size of your fist, it's not meant to be taken orally.

uga's businees school, through their honors program, is very well-regarded in the business world. Other than that nothing much to pound one's chest about.

Coming to grips that I know I am the most "naive" (ny-eve) person on this whole post, I gotta say that I believe CCG when he said it wasn't about the money.

If two NFL teams that he had been associated with to whatever degree, invited him to discuss taking their HC position, I don't care how much he loved GT, it would have appeared as an insult to just turn them down cold turkey without even an interview. Besides, it could have proved to be something much more worthwhile for him and his family by taking what they offered, if they offered it.

I don't knock CCG one bit for doing what he did, and I'm glad he stayed at GT. And now as RM2 said in his post, let's get on with the extermination clause of the contract that says "away with that school over yonder". Some things around here have high priority and beating the worm carriers is the highest one in my book. And, I'm talking consistently too!!!

Actually guys most players on the team thought of Gailey as gone no matter what Miami did...lets call it a "change of heart" I'm glad hes back though after meeting with some players I think hes now found out this makes him happy and cant just walk away!!

You are in the 25%. Drad knows the problems at GT will not get fixed anytime soon with Gailey still here. And only 25% of the alumni like him- Gailey. The other 75% either want him gone or dont care. Im sorry, but he is an NFL type coach and its too bad for him and for us that it didnt work out because he isnt going to endear himself to fans all of a sudden and he knows it. Oh well, if he wasnt so stubborn he may have done even better than he has. He is a perfect pro-coach

I'm sure that you spoke with DRad himself about this and that you took a poll among a representative sample of the Tech population.
