middle...when you are starring a 50+ yard field goal in the face to win the game.

The prior plays were very conservative too. It wasn't like we were safely in field goal range.

I am sorry, but piss poor coaching by chan gailey cost us this game and negated a great second half effort.

Have to agree here. They knew we werent going to pass. We had nowhere to run, but yet we continued to do so. Coulda suprised them with a pass...

Seriously, and we didn't even run something to put the ball in the middle of the field for Bell.

I don't know what the hell it is we look for in OC, but after six years of Gailey, Nix and now Bond playing not to lose it's time to give that crap up.

Why the hell run it on 3rd and 20?? That's bullsh!t.

the previous runs were questionable. You're basically putting it all on your kicker to make a 40+ yarder but the last run was unforgivable. Our boys deserved better....

Right on man. Might as well have thrown it up for grabs in the endzone on the play.

But no, we continue playing pussyball and run it right up the f*cking middle on 3rd and 20!

WTF???

Bennett played the second half of his life and they took the ball out of his hands when we needed a play. When we were on the 25 and running it up the middle I was a little dissappointed, but I understood the reasoning(Why they never tried to put it in the middle of the field I'll never know). However, after the holding call you've got to try and get some of those yards back. There is a huge difference between a 42 and a 52 yard field goal. If you play conservatively and you don't take a chance to win the game, then sometimes you deserve to lose. This game felt so much like the Virginia game that I can't even stand it. Two loses to IMHO inferior opponents. Where was the defense in the first Quarter? They realize that they don't get a warm up quarter right? That the game starts when it is kicked and not when you switch sides for the first time right? Now I'm rambling, but give me a break. If you don't play every game, every series, every snap to win the game, then sometimes you'll get beat by someone who does. Simple as that.

It is games and exhibitions of coaching like today's that just break the players' collective hearts. To have played your way back into the game only to Gailey and Bond deprive them of any realistic chance of winning is very discouraging. It will take a superior leadership effort by the staff to keep this team from giving up---and I just believe our staff has what it takes. We win two, maybe three more games tops, but our losses will be horrendous. Miami, Va Tech and Georgia will thrash us. UNC and Duke are no longer givens, especially as our lossed mount and our bowl chances evaporate leading up to those games. We need a coaching change--that is obvious.

It is exactly the Virgina game--in that we have a better group of athletes, but still lost. What is the only logical conclusion? Coaching deficiencies.

I agree w/ everything you say.....They took the ball RIGHT OUT OF BENNETT'S hands and said thanks & I will take it from here..>GREAT DAY SON...& WE RUN THE BALL UP THE MIDDLE & GUESS WHAT IT'S STOPPED SURPRISE SURPRIS SURPRISE!!! & BELL ENDS UP CARRYING THE LOSS ON HIS SHOULDER'S AFTER SUCH A GREAT SEASON....TOO MUCH TO ASK OF YOUR KICKER.....WHAT A BIG SUCKER punch to the boys on after working so hard!

Dude, that's not the amazing part. The amazing part is that Gailey called a time out to think about calling that play.

I feel bad for John Bond. You know damn well that Coach Gailey was chirping in his ear "better sit on the ball here John".

BOR, that is the greatest hit the nail on the head, sum it up in the fewest words, most succinct statement about coaching I have ever read from anyone about any coach.

Good Heavens, you are correct.

He actually called time out to come up with that play.

AND IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN.:wow:

Taylor Bennett 22/34 --309 yards
Tashard Choice 32 carries --136 yards
Total yards 484
3rd down efficiency 9-17

..and we lost because our HC decided once our offense reached the 25 yard line that playing for a field goal would win the game.

Or, how about this, let Bond do his job.

Gailey has put together a good system. It boggles my mind why he is intent on not letting this aspect(the offense) work.

If that was the plan, play for the field goal, on that last drive... poor, poor performance.

Reminds me of Bobby Ross playing for the FG tie against NC instead of going for it. Probably cost us the undisputed national championship in both polls. Gailey should have known his lineman couldn't block without holding. We all did.

We lost because we played like $h!t in the 1st half. On both sides of the ball.
