I thought it was very interesting that the writer wrote that a negative was Chan's inability to adjust his players. I totally disagree. He's been long respected as a coach who could take the talent given to him and make them successful. Case in point:
at Denver, he threw the ball b/c he had Elway and good receivers.
at Troy State, he ran the triple option wishbone b/c that was the talent he had.
at the Steelers, he used Kordell Stewart and Jerome Bettis to run the ball b/c he had them and a great line.
at Dallas, he ran the ball b/c he had Emmitt and an excellent line. Troy was starting to falter and Irvin had already nearly faded out.
at Miami, he had Lamar Smith and a good line, so he ran the ball. C'mon, his QB and Jay Fiedler, not exactly a franchise QB.
He's adjusted his gameplan to the talent he's had. He's been blessed with good runners and good offensive lines. To be honest, I look for GT to have great backs and great lines with Chan as the HC. He'll pass the ball, but this team will run the ball well, and this team's defense will also be very good.
I'm excited that Chan's on the Flats now. I was very concerned that UGA or Alabama would get him. They both got excellent coaches, but Chan is very, VERY good. I can't wait for August.
