I do believe this will be a tough game...

While I do disagree with some of the posts regarding the match up (wouldn't be fun if I agreed now would it?), I also believe that this game will be very tough. We have a history of coming out flat on senior day (last home game every year). We won last year against Houston (played them last because of 9/11), but other than that, we haven't won the Senior game since 96. Now one reason for that is that we play either Aub or Tech usually in that game.

Also, when was the last time a UGA / Tech game was a blow out? I think 2000 could have been but we made the late charge to keep the score (and only the score) respectable. The same could be said for 2001 (score could have been worse).

I guess 94 (the fight) was really the last blow out. In every game since then the loser has had a chance in the 4th quarter. I'd love for our offense to come out and perform like we did against KY and Vandy, but I'm realistic enough to know that Tech has a much better defense than those teams. But I do think we faced and beat tougher defenses in Bama, Auburn and Tennessee.

Also, if Gary and Edwards are both out, we will have a tough time moving the offense. Our offense seems to click so well when they are both in the game because of the different options they allow you to use. Edwards will probably be out. Gary could be back but is questionable, I believe.

Tech should have those 2 big OL back so on defense we'll have to commit more to the run.

Anyway, bottom line is that while UGA might / probably has superior talent and depth, we have had superior talent and depth before and lost or barely won these games. This game should be a tough one.

I try to have a realistic look at each game even though I am always hopeful for a Tech victory.

Georgia has the edge on offense. Even though Greene is sometimes erratic, he is a good passer. I have made the comparison in another post of his resemblence of Kim King in his play. Of course both are lefties, but both are pretty accurate.

If Hollings were healthy, we could claim to be equal in the running game, but Musa Smith gives UGA the edge in the running department.

Both defenses are pretty good. Tech may have more speed at the linebacker's spot, but UGA seems to be a little more solid on defense. Their defense has carried them this entire year. Tech has had some good games, especially the last three, but we have not played a full season of great defense.

Georgia has beaten more good teams than we have beaten, so the difficulty of wins to schedule is in their corner.

It is not even debatable that our offense has sputtered all year. We play at their house. If I was an outsider or a sports analyst, I would predict UGA to beat Tech by two TDs.

There is always the intangible in this game. It sometimes comes down to which team is more fired up and wants it the most. Georgia is in a prime position to be upset, and Tech does have the ability to upset UGA if we get a few breaks and play well.

I am sure the Tech players would love to knock UGA from their perch. It would be a huge upset, but one that is attainable.

It sure would make this year of football a great year at Tech!

I agree that on paper UGA beats us pretty good. However, there is one really big intangible. For Tech, wining this game would make a season that has been fairly frustrating and turn it into a great year. For UGA, winning this game would be nice (since we are the rival) but it doesn't stop them from obtaining their main goal: Win the SEC and go to a BCS game.

We will see if it plays out on the field but it seems as though Tech would have the greater motivation in this game and thus might catch UGA sleeping.

I kinda wonder if this isn't just a time for fans to act like total idiots (me among them - stick a lit firecracker in a bulldog's ass (the animal) just to hear him howl, etc.)

The football players have bowls and championships beyond the GT/uga game, so what is this game - #7 vs #38?

Disagree totally with goldtoof and agree top two posts. While Ga. is going for bigger things to excuse away this game while we are 4-4 in the ACC and pondering some crappy bowl games is a stretch. This is THE game for Tech, and two td's is about right on paper. The intangibles have to go in Ga.'s favor, as they have won more than a couple in the last few minutes, while Tech's personality under Gailey is still unknown. If it is close in the final minutes, Green gets the nod over Suggs, one having made some positive plays at the end (Tennessee in 01 and Auburn in 02 come to mind) while Suggs has hurt us with some poor throws (FSU in 02 as an example).

Tech has an improved defense going for us, but our offense cannot rely upon them alone to win. Any objective analysis would indicate we have some problems in (a) play calling - don't know if it is Gailey, BOB, or a combination (b) inconsistent QB play (c) some poor clock management and general strategy.

History has been favorable when we were more solid at QB- Sean Jones, Joe Hamilton, George Godsey and had the ability to mainatin possession with a tough or big back - Burns, Wilder. This year Clinkscale has come through big for us, but we seemed to have given up on Ace once he didn't lower his shoulders on the goal at NC State. We need those tough yardage guys. Our receivers will have to make some big plays but more importantly make the expected ones. We will not win if they drop their usual 3-4 catchable balls per game. Kicking game is about even, although Georgia has more ability to block kicks.

That's my take on it. On paper Georgia wins, but that's why they play them. Maybe Gailey can spin a miracle.

This game will feature 2 mediocre offenses and 2 good, tough defenses. The problem our offense will have is blocking Georgia's DL. Those guys are ferocious and they have alot of depth, so they don't wear down. Actually, they get stronger as the game goes along. Also, their linebackers are very active and athletic. Georgia's secondary has performed well this year. Overall, they are solid and will be hard to score on.

The problem Georgia's offense will have is blocking against our speed and schemes. About 3 or 4 weeks ago, the light bulb went "on" for our defense and they are playing as good as anyone right now. We'll be facing a Georgia OL that's banged up and hasn't performed up to expectations. I think we have a chance to make things hard on their offense.

Georgia will be favored and they should be. But, I think this game will be close. I think 24 points will win this game.

There is always the possibility of an upset - that's a given, but this will not be a game based on solid off/def play from both teams. This will be a game of mistakes - who makes the least, wins. I guess I just don't want to hear all my bulldawg relatives barking at me from Thanksgiving thru Christmas, damn I hate that!

I agree with everyone but goldtoof. As Father WASP said, this is THE game. Georgia may be overlooking us, or they may not. This game isn't getting any attention. People on ESPN and such are focusing on the SEC Championship, who will come from the west and what not, and not giving us any mention. Don't forget that Georgia still has a chance, no matter how small, to make the Fiesta. Remember last year when Oklahoma was set to make a trip to Pasadena when the little ole Cowboys from OK State surprised them? Granted that Oklahoma was a more important team in the picture than Georgia is now but to ruin ANY chances whatsoever would make it that much sweeter.

Suggs must be accident free. If he must make any mistake he had better do it when it has no importance, but all 60 minutes will be important so the room for error is minimal.

The running game must be on again. If we can get Clinkscale on the outside, he can bust a few big runs.

We need a good game at wide out. Watkins, Thomas, Smith...all over them need to have good games and must not drop passes.

Our defense will need to get a turnover or two to keep momentum AND will need to keep after the quarterback. Stuff the run, cover the recievers, watch the option - all of it.

Special Teams - must make all field goals, good punts, good returns, etc.

No mistakes, consistent play, and a break or two and we have a good shot to win.
