And this is not to ignore or diminish the legit criticisms of our program or coaches.

But I think that Woody is not the kind of coach to continue to trot out the same D with the same prep week after week and he will be breathing fire and puking brimstone this week.

Let's give him at least a fair and reasonable chance to see how we do against Pitt this week.

Fair?

I don't think the offense looked bad at all. The defense got two shitty HTH calls

We will see. Containment was an issue against Alcorn State and it was really exploited against USF. The defensive line is putting pressure on the pocket, but there's no one home to pick up the QB when they break free. The secondary played decent yesterday... much better than I anticipated given their youth.

My one positive note is that if I had to choose one game to lose this year, it would have been USF. Not as embarrassing as losing to Alcorn St. or Bowling Green. Conversely, not a rivalry game, nor a conference game.

So it's really not the end of the world that we lost. What's painful isn't the loss so much as the horrible trip over your feet way we lost... the KO returns, the two ejections, the fumble, the 21 straight points at the end. It's the way we lost, reminiscent of many a CPJ failure in the past few years, that has everyone so upset.

That’s a really interesting point actually. I would agree that it is the least damaging game to lose.

We can still go to the playoff with this loss and USF isn’t so bad.

A lot of speed on offense.

A real pass rush will give them fits though.

Just a total team loss but not for lack of trying. All fixable mistakes. We can get better from this.

Yea, their QB is gonna be confident and quick to scramble in a future game based on our game and is gonna get popped hard for losses.

I still can't believe we played their pistol option so badly when they ran it.

(1) denial, (2) anger, (3) bargaining, (4) depression and (5) acceptance...

Feels more like the 'positive note' thread evidences stage #3.
I honesty am ready to see how our guys react to the loss. Quit or kill Pitt

The offense was strong - the run blocking, the blocking on the perimeter was unbelievable. Defense still sucks - but to the OP's point - yes, let's give Woody a chance to look at the tape, adjust, and see what we can do. If we keep moving the ball like this, it won't take very much defensively to win games.

Kinda hard to blame Woody at all this year, given that these players weren't recruited by him nor for his type of scheme. I hope he can impart some fundamentals onto 'em though. Teaching someone how to wrap up a tackle shouldn't be rocket science but if it is, we're GT - we can do that.
