I don't want to spend this week harping on defense

Because I'm extremely excited about the Florida State game, and very hopeful that our coaches will get our defense prepared and corrected.

But my final thought is that I don't think that anyone is overreacting to our defensive issues. It wasn't the last 8 minutes that was the problem or that made everyone take notice. We had one or two defensive showings at the beginning of the game, but after that MSU seemed to be gaining 5-8 yards on every play before being touched. Whether that was rushing up the middle on a draw through lanes that you could drive a tank through or passing over the middle into a plane of the field that our guys were unaware existed.

I know that some offenses are good enough to just move the ball, but the goal is always to have an offense they can't stop and a defense they can't penetrate. We're getting pretty damn close to the former, but last night we looked lightyears away from the latter.

As I said, I'm hoping and trusting in our staff to make adjustments to ensure that this doesn't happen against Florida State in a huge, huge game. But I don't see anything wrong with the people that believe that last night's defensive performance is not acceptable.

Wommack also has 18 games under his belt at this point inclusive of last season. We have given up 27 points or better in 7 of them and over 20 in several more. The guy is not stopping people.

I'd also like to say for people pointing to our performance against UNC...UNC has played three BCS conference teams this year and is averaging 6.66 points per game against them on offense, so you can't really take much from that one.

Great point. It's also worth noting that in none of those performances have they appeared to be improving from the last one, in fact they looked worse yesterday than they did against us. It's one thing to be bad and getting better, but their offense is finding new ways every week to hurt the team.

Here's some overreaction:
And if not for TO's we probably would have been beaten. Our D, except for Morgan, should give their Scholly's back.

In reference to Wommack:
If we get rid of him, we need to promote Giff Smith.

These two are definitely overreaction. I could find more, but I don't want to dwell on stupid ramblings.

Our defense can be much much better. We all understand that. But they aren't as bad as they could be. There isn't anything we can do about it because we don't make coaching changes, so why dwell on it?

There were more negative threads about our defense doing subpar than on Nesbitt playing the best game I have ever seen him play. Or on the emergence on Stephen Hill. Or on the great coaching of CPJ. Or on how the shut up those stupid cow bells. Or on how great it is to be 4-1 instead of 3-2 like UGA. I'm glad you made this thread, because we don't want to spend the week harping on the many mistakes of our defense that all of us noticed.
