If you read this and think I have an attitude problem or something of that nature, rest assured that I don't - this is an honest question and I want an honest, uncynical answer.

Is the complaining (only word I could think of, I know it sounds..."bad") about Coach Chan going to continue into the off-season and start of the next?

If DeBo wins the job of starter, will we have to endure "Why didn't he do that mid-way last season?" When September 6th gets here, are we going to have to endure "Here we go again, we should have fired him when we have the chance." should we lose?

If so, I'll stop using the internet to get in touch with the people who continue to complain. Last year, when I went to the Maryland game, I watched a great football game that came out in the other teams favor. I was very upset. But by the time I got halfway from my seat in the upper east stands to the exit gate, I was thinking in my mind how we weren't out of it. I later came up with how we could mathematically still win. And there is nothing impossible in college football until mathematically so. Some call that young and naive, I say your old and stubborn.

Some people on this board held on to the Wake Forest game like it was a life preserver in the middle of the pacific. "Great win against NC State, but the Wake game.." They didn't let go of it until halftime of the Georgia game (though there are some who still won't leave it alone.)

As of January 1st at 12:00 AM, we're an 0-0 team. If you want to gripe about the 2002 season after that, I personally don't want you in this great schools fan base.

Finally, if you are about to click that respond button and give me something in the manner of "Take off those rose colored glasses" - you might want to put some on and read this post again because it's about you.

Jacket, I'm not sure I understand your post 100%, but the great thing about football season is that, just like school, it has a beginning and an end. You always get to start over next year. You're right, as of Jan. 1, we're 0-0.

Go Jackets!!

I just noticed that my email in my StinGTalk profile has been an old, expired one. So I have not been ignoring those insulting emails, guys, I haven't gotten them. It's updated now.

The short version: Will we have to continue to endure the complaining (about this season) through the off-season and next season. There are, however some other points.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">I think that there are just a couple of people on the internet that are negative consistently...then you have a few that overeact to everything and would be better off self-imposing a 2-day cooling off period after a game before posting.
Most people understand that we met the expectations of the unbiased football analaysts in that we endured a coaching change, the loss of 90% of our offense from last year (Godsey, Burns, Campbell), our leading sack man in Tech history (Gathers)...and a ton of injuries to key positions. We have higher expecatations of our team than the analysts...and that is because we are GT fans.
There is another fringe group and those are people who took it personally that Chan was hired over "their" candidate. Heck...I had a candidate I was pulling for until I found out Gailey wanted to come then I knew my guy did not have the resume or experience to compete with him! Anyway...these people will not be happy for years no matter what. If we had a great year they would have said that Chan won with Gailey's players.
For the most part I have learned to not even open the posts from certain handles. However, sometimes I cannot resist responding to their drivel either.
To sum it up...I think that Gailey plugged the hole in the ship left by the coaching change and departure of key players, and he is putting together a great recruiting class. I am pleased with the direction at this point.

Jacket, the only part of your post I think may happen that will be legit, is the reference to Bilbo starting, and if successful....people questioning why not last season, and they will have a good point. The rest of it is just people who don't care for Chan's style/philosophy/results etc. and they are gonna be that way unless we win big. THWG

We have had a rough year, mainly with injuries, but a major coaching change to almost the entire staff and a new QB to run the offense. I have had my questions at times, but starting tomorrow, I will trust the coaches in spring to decide who is best. If Bilbo is able to learn the playbook, I feel he should get a chance to play. But I'm not going to complain about the 2002 season anymore--and for one main reason.

I think there needs to be some time for a players/coaches to adjust to new things. I remember telling myself last spring that 6 wins was the measuring stick. We achieved that. Now maybe the UGA game and the couple of others were not the kind of losses that look pretty, but we overachieved in the big picture fron what I felt we would do. A win todya would be great for confidence into next year, too.

I have been surprised and frankly dismayed by the tone, number, consistency and stridency of many of the posts on both this board and the hive over the past year. Quite frankly it takes a lot of the fun out of coming to these places.

For whatever reason several folks (haven't tried to track them except for beeware) seem to have a mission to tear down any optimism, good feeling and yes hope that I or others are looking to find about our chosen team. And to me this is what following a college team is all about - sharing positives with people of similar "faith". Not getting together time after time to moan about how bad things are, how everyone is an idiot and why don't these morons do exactly what I want them to do.

Georgia Tech made a decision to hire Chan Gailey. While it may not be everyone's decision any way you look at it it was a reasonable decision. For multiple reasons, Gailey got a no honeymoon with his arrival and some folks have chosen to spend their time and posts from very early on fighting a rearguard action to tear down Gailey and GT football be damned in the process. I don't like these people/actions where I work and I don't like them here.

Like you, I hope that next year will be a better time to have fun with my following GT football. However, I don't have a whole lot of faith that anything will change some folks outlook short of being made AD themselves. Having fun is not just about wins and losses, it is also about congeniality and optimism with folks who share my "faith".

There will be a time to judge Gailey and say whether he should stay or not. Some will have a short rope (or no rope) others will have a longer rope. But I don't understand how after one year and before the first real recruiting class is in we can make definitive judgements or statements about Gailey being an idiot or incompetent or that for the good of GT football he has to go now.

And I really don't have fun reading the lunacy of posts calling each other idiots and worse. Maybe the only fun I can hope for now is to set up a ring at the next home football game for all the folks who have called each other out to meet and beat the crap out of each other for our entertainment. I hope that isn't all that this internet stuff has brought to us and all I have to look forward to with following GT football.

The Jacket, without trying to be cynical, but to give you a very honest and straightforward answer, I will give my two cents worth.

Yes, we will continue to have both sides of every issue debated on the board. It can be no other way in order to have honest debates. I can not expect to see every poster on the board agree with all of my thoughts and opinions. Neither will I agree with all the thoughts and opinions of others.

I don't know how long you have been a die-hard fan of GT, but I and some others have been die-hard fans of GT sports for over 50 years.

If you don't want some of us in the fan base of GT athletics, I am not sure if there is anything you can do about it. Because we have probably been part of the fan base longer than you have existed, what authority do you have to expel us from this fan base?

You are right about one aspect of your post. You can refuse to use the internet to access this board which will relieve you of the pain of having to read some of the posts.

I am not trying to offend you, but it is evident, internet board information and posts can only be limited by the moderators.

Have a nice day, and I will give you the day off tomorrow to celebrate my birthday.

Ahsoisee, read my post once again. I did not say that I want everyone to stop debating. Nor did I say that I wanted everybody to share my points of view - that's not what my post is about at all.

I asked the question of whether the complaining about THIS SEASON was going to continue through the off-season and next season.

I also did not say that I wanted to "expel" anyone from the fanbase that has been here longer than me because they differ from my views. I said that I didn't want those here who will not let go of what happened this season and look ahead to a clean slate in the fanbase. I had not said that I was going to attempt to kick anyone out of the fanbase or that I was going to "Do something about it" alot of people want Gailey out, but there's nothing they can do about it. Alot of people don't want a specific member on this board, but there's nothing they can do about it.

And finally, I would only leave this board if the excessive complaining about this seasons misfortunes continued after it should have stopped. If there are a couple or few who continue, I will not leave but if it continues with many of the forum's users past that time, I know some UGAg fans that don't bash our team as much as I've seen some do here that I can talk to.

One more thing to address - Bilbo/Starter.
GoldZ, it's not a matter of whether they have a "good point" or not. Perhaps Bilbo should have been made the starter. What I said is that they shouldn't continue on about it when a new season (or off-season) is upon us.

WHAT'S PAST IS PAST .... Unless it's good, then we rag the other team for eternity.

I think that this season will be mostly forgettable although it could've been a lot worse.
The complaining and hyper-criticism from game-to-game, season-to-season, will never cease (although I don't plan on doing anymore than my fair share of it

) but I don't think we'll be debating THIS season very much longer.

I'm looking forward to today's bowl game and the remainder of recruiting season.
