He may be mad at GT, although most of the comments that I have seen are critical of UGA's academic and athletic administration as opposed to Pope himself.
When the game starts, none of the academics matter. We have to go out and play well if we expect to win, and UGA has an excellent team that could still beat us even if we play a mistake free game.
I want to beat UGA, and academics is irrelevant on the gridiron.
However, I want to see all students in the state, including those at UGA, to strive to improve themselves intellectually. I think it is very cynical of UGA's administration that their student athletes play so hard for the school, while the school does not reciprocate by providing a high quality academic experience. The UGA athletic association funnels large amounts of money to coaches instead of hiring many excellent quality tutors to help students such as Pope to develop their understanding of English grammar.
