I know it\'s February still, but let\'s talk football!

Anybody have any thoughts on the upcoming season? What are our biggest question marks (other than QB), where do you think we'll see the most improvement? Which freshman do you see getting the most playing time? What recruits from 2001 will make big impacts this year?? Who's gonna be our go-to receiver?? How 'bout our defense?? Will Gathers move inside? Who's gonna make impact with pass rush??

Just some thought starters. We're less than a month from spring practice. Let's talk some football!

Awesome topic.

I think our biggest improvement will be in the defensive secondary, due to the addition of Tenuta. Don't know about freshmen. Are any of them going to be in school by spring practice???
2001 recruits making an impact???....some of the defensive linemen that redshirted should have a chance to play some quality minutes.

I hope Gathers stays at end. He's very good from that position. We need for Holiday to step up this year. I don't think he's been too comfortable with the change and the extra bulk. Maybe this will be his breakout year.

Wide Receivers??? I like all of them. We need a QB that distributes the ball to all of our weapons. Hall, Bilbo and Suggs will be one helluva battle.

The schedule is tough, with UGA, Clem, UNC, NCSt and MD on the road...that's 5 bowl teams from a year ago that are road games. Also, we have our yearly spanking from FSU. I'm thinking that 9-3 or 8-4 is a likely record, but we'll be in EVERY game and 11-1 is possible...with a little luck.

THANKS BUGBOY! I knew somebody wanted to talk GT football!

Since my computer has knocked me off twice now, I'll abbreviate (sp) my last two posts.

MAJOR KEYS TO SUCCESS IN '02:

1/Offensive and Defensive Line: New coaching and experience should help here not to mention some folks coming off injury. We've GOT to be able to hang with the big boys like UGA and FSU.

2/Seconday Play: Should see some marked improvement here with new coaches and lots of competition. Will be KEY to our overall "D" next season.

3/QB: If the new starter adjusts well and plays smart, we should be on par with the last few years.

Just my stupid two cents. Let's keep it going Stingtalkers!!

I just hope the third and long on defense nightmare is over. This has been going on for seven years during the GOL era, and the nightmare would have been even worse if it wasn't for Fridge's offense bailing us out. Offense is exciting, but Defense wins championships.

Well, We could very likely go undefeated, but to be realistic I will say
9-3 or 10-2 for this season. One of the true freshman recruits at WR will get the most playing time due to their height advantage. Really though, we outmatch all but FSU on paper.

Go Jackets!

Aren't You glad that you are smart enough to be a techie?

Re: I know it\'s February still, but let\'s talk football!

I've said this before, and I'll say it again..
I thinkk we're going to surprise a LOT of folks next year.....We have arguably the most experienced and talented team at the flats in a very long time.....I think we've just had a significant upgrade in coaching....Last years team should have lost 1 game, and we have almost everyone returning....Kicker and punter back....
Speed..Great receivers..Deep at RB...Great potential at QB....Defense should be great, maybe awesome....

I think enthusiasm will return....
Players released from the "doghouse" now can play.....

New stadium.....

I believe we'll get most of the players back from injuries ( skeptics to this are only looking at the health of these players right now, and not extrapolating to fall which is a LONG ways away)
Our OL and DL will be deeper than anticipated, because for some crazy reason, people tend to forget the redshirt players and Frosh from last year....And the great recruiting over the last 3 years.

I personally think it'll all jell next year...

and best of all - we're headed into the season very underrated...which usually spells success at Tech as well as all of the factors above...Things seem to be lining up for big things IMO..

oh...and I'm usually the worse pessimist around !

Re: I know it\'s February still, but let\'s talk football!

WOW gold! If you're the pessimist, I'd hate to hear what the optimist says about our chances next year. I still think there are too many IFs esp. at QB, RB, and both lines to forecast too brightly. I will say that if most/all our injured guys come off the DL in good shape then we WILL surprise some folks. HOPEFULLY some of those reside in Athens and/or Tallahassee!!
