I liked our running game.

A positive. There were certainly some creative looks in the run game last night, much better than the vanilla RPO draw plays of years past. Saw a few three back sets and at one point along pulled out the inside veer! Also some runs from a new position called “fullback” which were quite perplexing.

I agree for the most part. I'm disappointed we couldn't impose our will in the 4th to close out the game though.
I had hoped, after Charlie Thomas' pick, that we were going to have a power game trot out. Two tight ends. Big Jenkins in at WR. FB, TB. Some under center play.

We pretend to play a pro style offense. Pro style offenses go under center and shotgun.

Overall it's been night and day with our offensive play calling this year versus last. We haven't always executed well but I'm liking what we're trying to do. So far Chip Long has been a big positive.

We seem to have a strategy and run plays with a purpose. They don’t always work, but it does seem like someone is putting thought into things this year. Only time I’ve really been perplexed was the 2nd to last drive vs Clemson where were in no huddle/hurry up but called three giveup dives in a row. It was like we wanted to give it back to them as fast as possible so they could run it up

I thought there was a good mix of offensive formations and personnel groupings last night. Much more so than against Clempson. I think I saw the wing-t at one point. Seems like we were "working on things." I also noted we ran I-formation near the goalline with a DLman at FB. I'm sure some on here were creaming their pants over it.

The more we force opponents to work on, the better. I liked the multiple formations with multiple personnel in each. Quite a few different looks for Ole Miss to work on.

You're right on the mark here. I no longer want to vomit when watching our offense. There's a sense of strategy, mixing up plays to get other defense off balance, etc. Also, all the players seem to know the play being called. It's night and day. Wish we'd lean more on Dontae Smith. Hate to see us waste the talents of another NFL calibre RB because we're trying to be too cute or make sure everybody else gets their carriers.

I really think Chip is an upgrade, but we've downgraded talent* to the point we'll likely end the year rated worse unless something clicks in the next few games with the OL.

OL - replacing 4 starters with young guys, maybe better upside but after 2 games it's clear why the 4 new guys weren't P5 starters yet and Jordan Williams hasn't taken an obvious step forward.
WR - McGowan > McCollum, where is the rest of our receiving corps?
RB - Gibbs is a big loss, but the bigger thing that stands out is we have no thunder to go with our lightning at the position. We need a bruising RB and then hit them with a change of pace back. The Buffalo transfer just isn't it.

QB and TE look about the same.

I took that to mean / show that we were "calling the dogs off" (finally) to Clemson.

If CCL was here last season we might have had a different outlook for this year. His playcalling and the talent last year would have been more than 3 wins.

Not sure about this

Don't think Dontae is 100% right now.

That’s fair. I think CDP had some interesting concepts, but where he really struggled was adapting his system to the team’s strengths.
I agree, if you look back, our opening scripts typically got us down the field pretty well. It was his in-game adjustments that didn't help us. It also helps to have a dedicated QB coach now.

You should like every facet of the game when playing an FCS opponent. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case.
