Hehe. Awesome. The CSS replay is worth watching just to hear Joe. He's a trip. He wants to break out into the broadcast field, but the only guys that will have him is the CSS replay guys, so he has to broadcast Tech games and struggle the whole time to hide his excitement when Tech does well. It's hilarious.

I love that guy.

Just watched the replay and thought the same thing myself.

This one was interesting too since it was his old coach on the other side.

Have to agree with that post. I only wish CSS would coach him on "speech" some because it's hard for me to understand what he is saying.

Reminds me of a kid that comes running in to tell something that he is so excited about. You have to tie him down so they can put their excitment into understandable words.

I wondered while watching if that may have been a reason that he was such a great scrambling QB.

Could have been no one understood the plays he called, so they just went to the line and blocked everybody they saw, leaving JH to run for his life?

Don't everybody get your panties in a wad now, this is just "humor".

But, it is true that I have to wait untill he has completely finished a statement and then I go back and decide what he was saying.

If it had to be a choice of whether he:

1) spoke so that I could understand every word,or

2) lose the excitment of his announcing, I'll just pick window #1 and keep right on putting his statements back together some more.

I wonder the same thing. Whenever he starts talking about what coverages the defense is in, he starts talking faster and faster until he starts to studder a little. It's hilarious. I keep imagining him losing control, grabbing the microphone in the booth, and throwing it into the soft spot in 2 deep coverage.

I *cannot believe* the Predators ditched Joe. That's crazy. Lets hope the Force picks him up.

The GTIT?

Yessireebob,

I think G-tit would be much more preferred than

G-tu.

Just look at the possibilities with G-tit. No end in sight. ;) :laugher:

I love Joe also. Many, many fond memories of his games with Friedgen as coordinator. I remember Joe having been given a public speaking coach back then. He does struggle a bit doesn't he. I wish well in whatever he does. Just saw where he wants a shot with the Ga. Force.

Take it for what its worth (nothing), but rumor has it from some people with far better connections than I do that Lil Joe wants to get into coaching and is pushing for CCG to bring him on as a QB coach. He's made no secret of wanting to coach and I would love to see him on the sidelines agian, if the guy can translate even a little of his instincts into the up and coming QBs in Nixs system, I'd be exstatic. I love that he's so loyal to Tech, represents us well everytime he's in the spotlight.

I've heard the same RP. Heard that he either turned down the QB coaching job at UMd or has put it off trying to get on at GT. FWIW

There's a limit to the number of coaches we can have on-staff, per NCAA rules, isn't there?

Yep.. We have 10

It seems like there are also grad assistant slots available as well. I am not sure how many and I am also not sure what limits there are, but I feel certain they exist. Unfortunately, I am not sure if lil Joe has his degree yet, so a graduate level spot may not be open to him. I think I did read that he has been taking classes toward his degree in the off-season.

I would be shocked if Joe has had an offer as a QB coach on the D-1 level. First, he doesn't have his degree yet, second to my knowledge he hasn't coached anywhere. The normal process is grad assistant, then assistant. I completely understand how good Joe was/is as a QB but that doesn't necessarily translate into coaching ability. The reason for a grad assistant's slot is to learn how to coach...how to turn the knowledge a former player has on how to play the game into something they can teach someone else.

If he has an offer anywhere, it'd be with Maryland.

I believe Joe is still in undergrad at Tech, but should be a semester or two away from graduating at this point. He only had a year left back in the 90s, but that was under the quarter system and Tech pretty well screwed everyone they could during the transition, so that probably expanded his time remaining to a year and a half, but he's been in school for nearly that long since he came back.

I think I read at some point where Friedgen DID offer the QB coach position to Hamilton. It may have been just a rumor that I read, but I know I read that somewhere. I think Hamilton could be a good coach b/c of his innate abilities to carve up defenses, and gosh knows I lovethe guy, but I think George Godsey would be the better coach. I believe he is currently with O'Leary at UCF working with QB's, but that guy was just brilliant to me with what he could do, not having the athletic agility or speed like Hamilton.

The one quote I really remember was from George O'Leary in 99. Went something like this: (paraphrased)

"Sometimes I go over to the offensive huddle, just to listen to Ralph and Joe talk, because its some of the best football talk I've ever heard."

Not questioning Joe's knowledge, just saying that it would be odd IMO for someone who has never even coached before to suddenly be the QB coach at a major program.

I agree, which is why I bet the only guy who'd give him a job would be Ralph, who has first hand knowledge of Joe's capabilities. I doubt Chan would, nor anyone else, and I wouldn't hold it against Chan.

I'd love to have him as a grad assistant, though. That would rule.
