I remember a time when I cringed when Godsey entered the field.

Remember those days? Hamilton would go down and Godsey came out.. slow throws, happy feet, deer in headlights appearance..

You overanxious people need to relax and give Taylor a chance. I say he gets the whole year no matter what. And for goodness sake, stop your "he doesnt practice well" ignorant comments.. did RB practice well? is that why we had to endure those 3 losses at the end of last year? because he practiced well?

Practice doesnt mean anything. The Game is the Game.

Taylor looks better in his first games than Godsey did.

Actually, practice does mean something. you don't practice well you don't play well. Means you aren't preparing yourself to give yourself and your team the best opportunity to win.

Technically speaking, RB only endured 2 of those losses. He let Taylor in on the fun for the last one.

That's debatable. Godsey looked like crap vs Central Florida until the 4th quarter, then he looked a lot better for the rest of his games.

Didn't Godsey also start more than one season of high school football though?

I like the guy, and I am pulling for him, don't get me wrong, but it's not like the guy has ever been considered "highly regarded"...Talent isnt always something you can teach...

The Mannings "highly regard" TB , enough to put him on there top 35 watch list. TB spent time with all three this summer and last summer and they are quoted as saying he has the tools. But hey..what does Archie or Payton know about QB's ??

And TB played a good game.....albeit against WVUs secondary :P

I was at that one, and we were in for 60 minutes. It never fell out of grasp

I don't agree at all. This was Taylor's 5th start, and I don't remember having this many questions about Godsey after his second start, in fact I think we were all pleasantly surprised by Godsey at this point. Bennett isn't the worst QB in the ACC or anything; but he isn't were Godsey was at this point either.

Right.... And remember how much "better" Reggie Ball looked in his first few games than Joe Hamilton?

This is a ridiculous comparison. I also remember cringing after that FSU game when Godsey replaced Lil Joe. But when he finally became starter it didn't take that long for it to become Godsey's team. He was a great QB and a great leader, and I only hope Taylor can develop into the player Godsey was.

Umm, no?

Wait, umm, hell no?

Hamilton's 4th odd game was the 21 point 4th quarter comeback vs UVA.

qft.

Taylor's not bad. I think he's better than AJ Suggs, clearly better than Reggie Ball, but he's no Godsey. That's okay, if we can run the ball and play D we can win the ACC without Godsey at QB.

beej67,
noting we didn't run the ball or play good defense last saturday

Yet another one of those times my tone doesn't come across correctly on the internet. That was very tongue-in-cheek, just to illustrate a similar ridiculous comparison that some posters on this & another board made 4 years ago during Reggie's freshman year.

No doubt about it, we were spoiled by JoeHam & Godsey. (And one of the best offensive minds in the game...)

Hamilton's 5th start was a sloppy 13-7 win over UVa that did not involve a comeback and was not a very good performance on his part.

The big comeback game against UVa was in Little Joe's junior year.

Ahh, my bad. Too much seriousness going on around here, I missed your sarcasm. :)

How many games did Joe start his sophomore year?

heck....Ralph Friedgen was ONE set of downs against UNC from benching Joe Hamilton in favor of Brandon Shaw after Joe had continued to suffer from forcing passes and making bad reads. It actually took him 2 full years to get it going...but he started as a R-Fr.

Actually, for those that remember the Carquest Bowl against WVirginia well....it could have been a disaster early as one of the opening plays from scrimmage was a swing pass thrown directly into the arms of a WVa LB in our backfield for an easy pic 6...and he dropped it.

I saw some positives from TB in the vertical game 2nd half vs. BC...and if not for 2 piss poor calls things MAY have been different...but you also have to create you own luck and beat the refs too sometimes.

I would expect some big strides this weekend...and I really believe it will happen...and we will get our first win in Charlottesville in 17 years.

I remember that too. The turning point for Goose was playing at a then formidable UNC early in the 2000 season after coming off a tough home losses to NC State. This game at UVA is lining up to be very similar. While Goose had a nice day, Burns broke their back in the 4th quarter. Lets hope whoever plays RB will do likewise Saturday.
