that Coach Chan Gailey can't return us to the position of perennial power. I know times are different now, but why CAN'T we return to the status we held under the revered Mr. Dodd. I hear alot of comparisons between Coach Chan and Coach Dodd. I for one am PRAYING that Coach Chan sticks around a LONG time. All we need is someone to take us to the next level, and it appears Coach Chan is off to a mighty good start. Did you read the post on the Hive from BEELIEVER that the recruits were eating out of Gailey's hand??

I'm guardedly optimistic, mind you, but awfully hopeful!!

I am with you JacketFan... I see no reason why we cant either.... (I also see no reason why it had to reach the depths it did post the 1967 Orange Bowl).... We need to find the best 85 players to fit the program... get the right coaches... (I think our expectations are beginning to rise in the fanbase) ... and do exactly as CG did... talk National Championships from day one... there is no reason why we cant... as I said in my earlier post.. .if you aspire to live in a mobile home, you probably will... if we aspire to go 7-4... we probably will...

I'm with you. We have the athletes, coaching staff and the facilities are coming around. We need to start expecting to be at the top of the ACC and in the top 10 on a yearly basis. We should not be satisfied with a mediocre program.

I absolutely agree. as I've said here on StinGTalk, I see no reason why we can't be the premier football school in the state and a perennial national power.

As for post-'67 blues, part of the reason-no doubt most of it -was an institutional decision to "de-emphasize' athletics in the late '50s. us older farts remember Sputnik and what a wake-up call it was. Well, Tech was one institution that heard the alarm. i was in high school at the time and a big Tech fan and was seriously upset by the "de-emphasis" word. Although the school quit using the term, the idea that Tech had a real mission in American education, I think, made the powers that be much less interested in athletics. Also, of course, Dodd's entirely honorable secession from the SEC hurt football. No doubt racial issues impinged-they did on everything else.

I'd be interested to hear from guys who were Tech students in those days. I went off to a college that has an undefeated record against FSU football. Erskine College in SC. They beat FSU's first team, then dropped football in '52

Just a bump to show how times were a little less hostile when our fearless leader first came to us.

This feeling lasted until that 51-7 raping of us by UGAy in November '02 10 months later.

This is less of a bump and more of an out-and-out resurrection, or thread necromancy, if you will. I might suggest you learn some general Internet board etiquette...

Too bad for him he didn't see 6 years of crappy offense and mediocre results coming.

Kudos to Stingtalk for keeping 6 year threads around. That's pretty cool.

The Hive can't keep threads for 6 weeks, much less 6 years. And no search function there either which is just ridiculous.

I certainly don't have a problem with that.

But my issue is that instead of discussing the thread at all, the poster just said "here's a bump!" and ran. (Which is generally why on the Internet at-large thread necromancy is discouraged - it rarely yields any productive new discussion.)

Perhaps more appropriate would have been a new thread about what you thought Gailey through the years and then posting links to threads like this.

This is the same guy that posted the topic about canchan.com and coachgailey.com. Troll much?

Is this a joke? :laugher:

Regardless of the date of the original post, I share the optimism, and a glance at Coach Dodd's record from his first years, as well as the trend in recruting reinforce this feeling.

Then again, I'm an optimistic kind of guy.

You may now return to your regularly scheduled bitching and complaining. :)
