I think from now on, whenever we win the coin toss, we need to get the ball first. It seems like whenever we win the toss and defer to the 2nd half, our offense comes out flat, and the other teams offense sustains good drives that lead to TDs on the opening drive.

Does anybody else agree with me?

Absolutely!

The last few games, we've won the toss, deferred, and then the other team marches down the field on our D. We start the game in a hole and I'm tired of it.

I like the idea, in principle, of having our D on the field first. However, we haven't stopped the other team at the start of the game in several weeks. This strategy doesn't work if the other team scores to start the game. Also, we haven't exactly lit it up on the drive right after halftime.

I'd rather take the ball first and have our offense try to get us ahead before the other team has the ball.

I certainly see both sides of this, however I like getting the ball first after half.

PJ defers 100% of the time(when he can).

Probably has something to do with timing getting better as the game progresses. I remember seeing some ridiculous stat from when he was at Navy...when he deferred he scored a touchdown on the opening drive of the 2nd half like 70% of the time or something.

Well he is at Georgia Tech now. The opponents are ALOT tougher at GT than they are/were at Navy so its very important that we score first as often as possible

I am willing to bet that Coach Johnson is aware that he is at Georgia Tech now and that our schedule is tougher than Navy's. I'm also willing to bet that he knows what's best for the team regarding the coin toss.

Why is it very important that we score first? Do you think the team quits if we get behind? You can say that it's preferable, or that you like it, but to say it's VERY important is bunk.

Why would taking the ball first change any of this?

Navy played, and sometimes beat, many of the same opponents we play here in the ACC. And I guarantee you that he did so while still deferring to the second half.
