I think worse. The way college ball is now and the way we’re trending, yeah the program is toast

Here’s a surprising fact: Bill Lewis only lost to two teams with losing records: 5-6 UGA in 93 and 4-7 Maryland in the game before he “quit.”

Collins results have been significantly worse.

IMO the ”reasons” for choosing Collins were the same reasons they chose Lewis.

They (THE PEOPLE DOING THE HIRING) should have reached out to people who have done the job (coached GT) and have succeeded.

Bobby Ross
George O’leary
Chan Gailey (yes this guy too)
Paul Johnson

Collins would have never been chosen by these guys. It is amazing the disconnect of the GT admin with the reality of coaching GT.

-Bobby Dodd pulled us out of the SEC because it was not a good “fit“ for GT.
-Paul Johnson commented on numerous occasions how coaching at GT was very similar to coaching at a military academy.

O’Leary recommended CGC if I remember correctly.

Chan Gailey would have recommended Collins probably. Collins did great under him.

I think the data set is moving in the right direction. Those 2 are probably the only living GT coaches that “understand” GT. I remember ~9 months b/f PJ was hired someone posted a pic on stingtalk of BR and PJ talking before a game with the header “look GT’s previous coach talking to GT’s future coach.”

George O'Leary was heavily involved in assembling this staff and getting buy in.

I don't remember the specifics but I do recall there being rumors that Collins burned some bridges when he left after the 2006 recruiting class. I was under the impression he and Gailey were not on good terms.
