I absolutely enjoyed eating my just and delicious words for supper last night. I must admit that I was still worried about his ability up until the third down pass to Smith. I felt like with all those short passes , especially on third and long either the coaches had no confidence in his arm strength or the coaches did not understand third and long. I now believe there has been something in his mechanics that was holding things back. When that third down to Fred came up something happened. My guess is in his follow through. Of course I could be wrong again. Something changed however for there were several balls thrown down field with a much better felosity. I do think I was right in that you cannot win by averaging 8yds. per completion. If the coaches will continue to work on those 10 to 20 yd. passes we will be alright. That win is one of the biggest in my memory of over 40 years for all the reasons people on these 2 boards have stated. We in my opinion were at a cross roads. We could have been set back to square one which could have lasted for 5 years or longer. This coaching staff and senior leader ship I am convinced saved the day. We are not going to finish in the top 10, but this group of coaches and senior players have corrected a possible catastrophic deteriation of a long proud established program. In the face of adverity of the WORST kind these people are true survivors of a long hard battle. These are the kind of people you want to go to war with to do the fight, side by side as the true meaning of team spirit. These seniors did not win a championship, but with their enduring spirit and fight they have indeed saved the day. They will always be remembered in my heart as the true winners. To the underclassmen, the example has been laid before you. Now take this wonderful example and go into heights that you didn't realize you could reach. My sincere thanks to all of you who make up this football program.
