Wake Forest held a press conference where Danny Manning and the AD said he would be coaching for another year. Interesting that you have to hold a presser to announce you are going to continue to do your job for another year and the boss confirms this to be true. Heard some scuttlebutt from a wealthy Wake alum that their money people were simply not up to a buyout. Manning's is reported to be $17 million if they fired him this year, but this source said it was actually closer to $24 million. His take was that they simply had no stomach for paying Danny $24 million not to coach their team. They are OK with sucking for another year or two.

The money trees in college sports may be drying up some. The contracts offered football and basketball coaches are ridiculous. The problem is the revenue you lose and fan interest that wanes when you are unwilling to buy out an underperforming coach. Note to AD's - quit offering contracts with guarantees and large buyouts. Let your coaches walk if they don't want to coach for you any longer or if you don't want to pay what another program is willing to pay. Offer a half million to a million buyout maximum if you terminate a coach before his contract expires.

Agreed. AD's also need to realize that ALL of the moving parts need to 'fit' in order to succeed on a regular basis. Name recognition is öööö, if the coach can't recruit AND run a system that effectively uses those recruits.

Im late coming around on this, but I might be on board with Ron Hunter at this point. He is already 404. Takes it a step farther than Collins by forgoing footwear altogether.

No need to panic and take another step down.

We aren’t going to go further in the financial tank over this unless the NCAA thing is really bad, but not as things stand now.

CJP will have at least 1, or maybe 2, years to get this thing going. But if recruiting doesn’t improve, a new coach will probably have to be given at least a 7 year deal.

I don’t see 1/2 the schools improving their lot with the changes they have made this week.
