I have wondered the same thing you have just asked. I'm not in the know on how complex our offense is but I would not think it to be as complex as what Ralph was using when he was our OC.
First off, I am not the authority on college football as some of the posters that we read from are. Some of these guys really know what they are talking about. I can't lay any claim to fame in that area. However from just a armchair QB and armchair Coach's viewpoint, the problems that I see are mainly just failure to execute correctly, what they should know how to do correctly. As far as our QB is concerned, I believe the kid is a very good QB. He has a very good arm, etc. It does appear at times to me that he just messes up. CG has tried the other QBs but in all honesty, I think the one he is using is his only choice at present. When he was trying Bilbo and Suggs, it was interception after interception. They just couldn't seem to get anything going. After all, when RB is good, he is great. When he is struggling, he is ..... Then we have some receivers that just don't catch the ball when it's thrown straight down their mouth. We as fans don't really know if the receiver ran the wrong route at times or did RB just throw the ball to the wrong place. No way for us to know that. Now, saying that, let me also say that at times the receivers make spectacular catches when covered like cheap cologne by a defender. We just can't seem to find any consistency in our game. Do we have a good enough game plan? Most of the time I think so. At times I question our game plan. We blame a lot on the HC that I don't think any HC could do anything to correct, other that replace the players. But do we have enough depth to do that? I think not.
When GT is hot, we can play most anybody, this year. If we are not all on the same page, about any grade school team in America could give us trouble. We have been doing some pure and simple DUMB and STUPID stuff. Illegal block clear across the field from the play, etc..........
I'm opposed to us getting stupid un needed penalties...BUT I am NOT against a O-Lineman getting a 15 yarder close to the first of the game for making a physical statement on a defender. Not only just the OL but also our DBs need to make a presence on occasion. Do I want to see anyone on the other team get injured? Heavens NO!!!! In a bit of pain? Heavens YES!!!! Gotta get their attention sometimes.
BUT, for the time being, looks like we'll contend with the goats in the mud thingy.
