If Coach Chan Gailey ........... In today\'s AJC

If Coach Chan Gailey was quoted correctly in todays AJC ......Is that not stupid? All you Chan Gailey apologists can start working overtime to place a positive spin on this article. Good luck! I'll bet that article laid a egg with everyone that follows Georgia Tech football. Or it should have. I really have serious concerns about our Head Coach for making these statements about Suggs being #1 going into fall practice. I believe Damarius Bilbo deserves a better deal than what he appears to getting from Coach Gailey.

Re: If Coach Chan Gailey ........... In today\'s AJC

Coach Gailey wasn't quoted other than saying, "AJ is our starter."

I don't see a direct quote from Coach Gailey stating that AJ is #1 going into Fall practice.

I don't believe for one second the QB competition will not be open in the spring. I don't care what John Hollis wrote in all honesty.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">As much as I wish Hollis was bored and just decided to rile everyone up with this article I doubt he is that coldblooded. There must be some truth to it.

Stateline... you give Hollis waaaaaay too much credit... chill out dude.... after Athens, Gailey's rope is much shorter, and he knows it.. if a better QB comes along in April or next August, you can bet he will be on the field.

I doubt that it's even as nefarious as Hollis wanting to get everyone riled up. Probably something got fouled up in the transmission of the story between the interview and the printer.

It is impossible that CG said what it sounds like he said, that there will be no QB competition this spring. There is no reason in the world to say that. On the other hand, it's conceivable that Hollis is p.o.ed at him for some reason, and set out to make CG seem mulish.

But my baseline guess is some newspaper biz SNAFU.

Jacketguy and Bellyseries: I hope you're right with your response.

Re: If Coach Chan Gailey ........... In today\'s AJC

me too Stateline.. if someone else had written the article, I may have paid a little more attention to it... but Hollis is a joke... the Macon Telegraph usually has much better coverage... Murphy does his job well.

Re: If Coach Chan Gailey ........... In today\'s AJC

I wish someone besides AJ were the starter, just because of this seasons outcome, not because of anything against the youngster. But PLEASE tell me what ANYONE has done that warrants replacing him. All DB has to do is prove it in practice where we all know he has been given every chance to win the job.

Re: If Coach Chan Gailey ........... In today\'s AJC

Tex, just look at the games Debo has been in. He is much more effective than aj. And most of the time Debo is playing with the bench warmers. Please don't give me the crap that we are better off with aj because he is experienced and knows the plays. He is nothing but a screw up!

Re: If Coach Chan Gailey ........... In today\'s AJC

When I first read the article, I was thinking to myself, "Oh great. We're screwed for next season too," but I only see one set of parentheses and four words between them in that first part of the article.

Here's the most confusing part of the article:

He's had an up-and-down year, but junior A.J. Suggs is Georgia Tech's starting quarterback and will remain so going into the spring practice period.

Coach Chan Gailey said the position will not be open for competition when the Yellow Jackets resume drills in April.

With that type of introduction to the story, Gailey's quote in the subsequent paragraph is rather meaningless. All he said was, "A.J. is our starter."

The way I first read it, I thought the second paragraph contradicted the first, but then I looked at it again and interpreted it as a restatement of the first paragraph. I don't know. Does "when the Yellow Jackets resume drills in April" mean during April or until April?

It's late and I may as well be reading too much into it. I said before in another thread that I partly blamed Gailey for the miscommunication, but hell, I also wonder if all Hollis did was ask him a really short question and then tried to extrapolate that quote into an actual interview. Either way, it's an ambiguous and poorly-written article.

Re: If Coach Chan Gailey ........... In today\'s AJC

God bless John Hollis. He's only trying to help us out with this half-witted article. Coach Gailey should post a retraction!

Re: If Coach Chan Gailey ........... In today\'s AJC

All I know is... if AJ is the starter coming out of spring practice, I ain't buying season tickets this year...

Re: If Coach Chan Gailey ........... In today\'s AJC

I'm getting seasons tickets no matter what. If we put Greg Gathers in at QB - I'd still bee getting seasons tickets. I'm not going to let a quarterback decision sway my dedication - and yes, if you do not get seasons tickets because of AJ, that's exactly what your doing. Who's to say that IF AJ does start next season (Which I don't think he will), he won't be a better quarterback? And don't anyone try and say that it can't be done.

Re: If Coach Chan Gailey ........... In today\'s AJC

If, and that is a big IF, our hc had any savvy at all, he would immediately say, "we have no guaranteed positions". It is beyond me why there is even a question as to what he meant. He should NEVER, EVER even insinuate that next yr's qb position is written in concrete. Does he not know that competition is the essence of the game?!!!! There is something about this hc we have that really has me scratching my head!!

Re: If Coach Chan Gailey ........... In today\'s AJC

I disagree totally bizzybee. Our HC should tell the team what's going on and leave the rest of us out of this. Personnel decisions should stay within the team...period.

Re: If Coach Chan Gailey ........... In today\'s AJC

I also saw this in the paper and screamed as I read it ... my daughter thought someone had died!!

I read it to her and (she's 16) said, why would he say that under the adverse feeling we all had at the end of the year, even if he really means it. There's been sooo much negativity surrounding that position this year and he knows this. I even question saying anything, with 3 topflight freshmen coming in really believing they can possibly fight for the starter's job.

I know Reggie Ball does! We watched his interview on Countdown to Signing Day and he said it himself! Gailey really amazes me in his thought process. So many things this past season in what he said and how he did things were very questionable. He knows that fans are at wits end with all of this ... just don't say anything!!

Re: If Coach Chan Gailey ........... In today\'s AJC

In the first paragraph, Hollis quotes him as saying AJ goes into the spring as the starter. Well, of course he does! Just like every other starter on the team. That doesn't mean he comes out as the starter and the players know that IMO. I agree that I wish he would say less than he already does to the media. Of course, we don't know that he said the position is closed do we? Was Hollis just trying to stretch to fill his article? IMO recruits know better than to worry about what is in the paper, they've probably been misquoted or taken out of context themselves.
