Then let's be fiscally responsible and hire Hatch. PJ is my second pick but honestly, if you can get Hatch for 1/2 the $$, it seems like a far better investment to me.

He will generate all the fan excitement we want plus he is a winner which translates into the assumption that he will win.

Don't give me the experience junk. He's been a head coach since he was 26. The field is the same size, the players are the same age, the object is the same...Anyone is going to have to get used to our academics so that is a level playing field.

He's still the best choice and I hope we don't blow it. Honestly, how many of you would have hired the Boston Red Sox's GM at (I believe) under 30 and he has put together 2 World Championships.

If you are good, you are good.

I like Hatcher more because he's somewhat of a high risk/high reward type hire that won't break us financially if that reward doesn't pan out.

He could be our Mike Leach, without all of the crazy.

Fan excitement does not equal Wins. Wins = $$$$

Hatcher is not ready.

Agreed but it doesn't look like that is going to happen.

I think that I have made it no secret that Chris Hatcher is my first choice, but I believe that PJ would be a great hire and that he would be successful here. I also can understand why PJ would be hired over Hatcher based on his experience and success.

I think that Hatcher represents the type of opportunity that does not come along very often and if we pass on him this time around that opportunity is lost for better or worse.

I agree 100%. I hope we can "luck" out and back into selecting one of the best candidates for this job. I must be dense, because it looks like a no brainer to me.

I'd be willing to roll the dice with Hatcher. And, at his age, you'd be able to sign him to a shorter term deal that's more incentive-based.

The man flat-out knows how to win. I like his attitude, and I think he'd be a great mentor to our guys.

For what it's worth, I am good with this as well. I only wish those who will make the decision were. IMHO, the key to the sort of success we all want for GT is recruiting: our pool is doubly reduced from the one the factories swim in, 1st to those academically qualified, 2nd to those qualified who want a major GT offers. The new HC really needs to be able to attract as large a percentage of the final group as possible. Get enough of them and all things are possible. If the day ever comes when GT is flush with 5-star talent, we will be annual, legit contenders for high rankings, BCS bowls, and MNC's. Hatcher may well be this sort of guy. WM may be as well, but his UGag baggage is apparently too heavy to overcome.

Some have himmed and hawwed over his 7-4 at GSU in his only 1AA season. I read where southern had some academic progress issues under Sewak & V'Gorder and only played with 39 full scholarship players this year. At the FCS level, 63 full schollies are allowed and partial schollies don't count against the total, so I don't now if that is unusual or not. They were only officially docked 4 or 5 ships, but played 24 under the limit - is that common for FCS schools? If it's not, then the 7-4 with a win over App State is phenomonal.

He's recruiting against div.2 or what ever teams. It's a different ball game with the big boys. Maybe he's ready but some don't think so yet.

That's easy to fix...just give him a big bag of cash to hit the recruiting trail with all the money we will save by signing him instead of PJ. ;)

I don't necessarily have a problem with hatcher except he will be recruiting hopefull top 100 athletes instead of the bottom of the pile athletes. my question is how will he fare against the top recruiters in the south, can he compete with the strongs and the nad licker in athens? Who knows?

RM,

I could say the same thing about any of our remaining candidates except RN who I object to for other reasons.

I'm sure he would bring a wealth of high school contacts with him to the job. With that and Giff and hopefully Geoff next year, we should be set with hatcher.
