that S. Renfree and his dad are camped on Jones' doorstep? His dad pretty much stated that his purpose for going to college was to move to the next level. Well, Jones would give him a shot to throw it a lot.

Why would June Jones go to SMU? Seems a lateral move at best, and Hawaii > Texas for retirement potential. June Jones has the best gig in all of college football, IMO.

You've got to be kidding beej. Not only will SMU pay him much more that Hawaii, but the facilities there are evidently ridiculous. They had no soap in the locker room earlier this year!

Plus, where is it easier to get players? Just like UCF was able to build a pretty nice program in a few short years due to the strength of Florida HS football; Jones will find better recruits in TX than in Hawaii.

IIRC, in a game earlier this season one of the announces made the statement that the payout for the Sugar Bowl was like 3 or 4 times the amount of Hawaii's total football budget.

Hawaii, and what JJ has(d) going there, does seem like a nice place to be. However, $2 million a year is much better than the $800K that Hawaii was attempting to offer in the final hour, so to speak.

Also as ncj stated --the facilities are much better at SMU --as is the recruiting landscape in Texas.

Heh, I'd go to Beirut for a 1.2 million dollar raise.

Yea, I'd probably take a pay decrease to move to Hawaii. But hey, whatever floats his boat. Seriously though, SMU is a project, to say the least.

Actually, cost of living of Hawaii compared to Texas, I imagine it is probably closer to 50% and not 25%. But the facilities would never be what they are in Texas, and the recruiting would not be the same.

His dad wants to move to the next level? WTF?

OK, he's from AZ, but he was coming to GT. That's a lot further from his home than Dallas. The kid is a passing QB. June Jones is known for developing kids who throw for thousands of yards. Why wouldn't he be interested if there was a chance for him to go there? Geez, he's looking at Nebraska. He could just as easily look at SMU.

Recruiting is probly a big factor too. Think of how hard it is to pull a player that is a family oriented guy all the way to Hawaii. I know if I was 18 and I told my mom I wanted to move to HI to play football she would laugh in my face. I know there are the exceptions, felons, prison and ydc alum, etc...., but I dont see their team improving in the near future because of what I stated.

If I was Chris Hatcher, I'd leave Hawaii to coach SMU. Not if I was June Jones. I guess I just don't understand what he's got to prove. I figured he's out there as a retirement job.

He was out there as a retirement job. He probably found himself a nice place to live on the islands. Now he wants to see whether his bank will allow him to deposit a six figure paycheck every month.
