If the 4th quarter is indicative....

...of the Nix offense, I'm liking it. It looked like our playcalling had direction. I liked the throw to the FB on 4th and goal. I liked the spread running game. I thought the reverses really helped loosen up the LBs, they're a great addition to the set.

I still don't think our OL is playing particularly well. Can't argue with 300+ yards rushing, or 500 yards total offense, though.

If Cox had dropped that pass, there would have been a hundred posts calling for Gailey & Nix's head.

Great call anyway.

I also liked the first TD drive...some trickery, getting the ball to Calvin in creative ways, etc., that I hadn't seen since the Champs Sports Bowl.

Also, I'd like to officially welcome the bootleg back to our offense. It's been awhile.

I can think of 4 possessions where OL mistakes contributed to killing the drive. In fact, the OL did more to slow the offense down than Troy did.

QB draws are working because they spread the D out and are covering up our poor OL play. Whether or not Reggie can take the abuse for 12 games is another question.

Our OL line play is clearly weak on one major major area:

2nd down and 2 and we're struggling to make a first down. The same thing applies for the red zone too.

Our OL play is weak in two major areas: run blocking and pass blocking. The only thing that is consistently working is the QB draw, because it spreads the D out, and the OL does not have to whip the DL man for man. Our OL could not block Samford straight up in the first quarter and could not block Troy straight up until Troy's little defense finally wore out in the 4th.

UVa brings a big DL that has given us problems in the past, and will again on Thursday.

Tashard is a bigtime playmaker once he makes it to space. And this new offense is all about creating space. When it works, I like it. A lot. It's very slick. I love this whole shotgun-proset-motion-Cox-into-the-slot-to-block business.
