if we don\'t run the Option on Sat I\'ll be PISSED b/c

AU has shown the complete inability to stop it over the past several years. Last year, ARK ran for about 400 yards (not a joke) on ARK w/ the option and barely even a hint of a threat for the pass.

If PJ doesn't have the speed for the edge, then put in Grant and Smith back there. I doubt that Grant doesn't know how to RUN. Blocking and reading schemes is probably what's holding him back.

They are completely incapable of defending it. We need to run it.

Agreed. The option really plays into the talents of our QB. We should at least run it some.

Run the option with a kid who has been on campus
for about 4 weeks?

No way.

People need to get off this option kick. Its not
a silver bullet that can solve any problems...

Should we run the option or threaten to run the option??

Sure we should.

Will we run the option with Chan calling the plays?

Not a chance. We will run the same vanilla crap that we ran against BYU....with no plan whatsoever of winning the game.

A more important question, now that Chan has completely taken over the offense, is will our defense score more TD's than our offense...or will our offense ever score a TD??

I would think that the option would be an easier thing for a young QB to run than any passing offense involving reads. Hey, Crenshaw evidently never learned to read a defense but they let him run some option.

We probably won't win a game this year if we don't let Ball make reads in the passing game. Being conservative early is ok but not cutting loose will guarantee losses unless you have an outstanding defense.

I'm not saying that we should become Nebraska. I just think it can be effective and help open up the passing game.

I personally would love to see the option installed. Especially with a qb such as Ball.

A good point by cracker jacket is that Ball has not been on campus long enough to fully intall it. We've only ran one or two option plays in 'open' practice.

I would not be surprised if we ran a play here or there, but I don't expect a full blown option attack any time soon. Ball has enough on his plate right now.

Additionally, Grant might be the best back we have suited for the option and he might need some more time (i.e. redshirt).

After watching the BYU game again, I feel better about our offense. If we keep gradually opening the play book and Ball keeps improving, we should be just fine in my opinion.

Chan has said clearly that the option is not part of his offensive package.

Besides, isn't Grant hurt?

I would love to see the option as well...but who do you put at TB in it? Woods has a tough time holding on to the football...and in the option you can take some tough hits on the outside. Daniels and Ace are not option TB's.

I agree that Grant and Smith are option type athletes...but the entire world would know what was coming with Grant in the backfield until he picks up on the pass protection. We are too thin at WR to have Smith back there on too many plays.

Lets also remember that Ball did not run the option in high school...he ran a pro set from what I was told.

I love the option...and we will see it with Ball one day. I hope we see it soon because that means a lot of development has taken place. However, I think it may be awhile yet.

guys, the fact is there are not that many teams that actually run the option. Just because we like it doesn't mean we can run it. I don't know if Reggie ever ran it in HS. Can he run it? I don't know. This sounds a lot like last year's moaning about Bilbo running the option. Everybody seemed to think he was perfect or it, until someone who actually saw him play in HS let us know that he never ran it.

Lots of teams win without an option package. And a lot lose with one. I don't care what our offense looks like if we win. And if we lose, it won't make me feel any better if we run a "fun" offense.

They could insert Fred Smith at QB and run the option. Ran it some last year, but Auburn would probably see it coming. He's pretty nifty at running option (ran it in HS).

You don't have to have a full option package.Just the threat helps. But WE HAVE GOT TO DO SOMETHING CREATIVE.
Really surprised we didn't see the shotgun last wk.If we don't use Ball's speed this team is doomed.PJ puts out great effort but he is a 3.5 yd/carry back.
Let's see MR Off- coordinator- in- Pros come up with an offense that scores some points.
I'm getting tired of excuses. He has gone through 2 QBs and still has little to show.Last yrs excuse-O'brien/injuries.This year's excuse- a FR QB.Next yrs-no Jonathon Smith. etc,etc And he actually HAS what most coaches lament NOT having-an Offensive line .

Re: if we don\'t run the Option on Sat I\'ll be PISSED b/c

Executing the option very well takes alot of practice time. It's takes repetition to get it down. if you haven't practiced the option A WHOLE LOT, then you're bound to screw up at a number of places: During the QB/FB exchange (if we're running the triple option), reading the DE, and, most importantly, pitching the ball.

Im not saying we won't eventually run the option, but it's too early now to be screaming for it, especially since we need to get the ball in the hands of our WR's, one of our strengths.
