I'm beginning to be a believer in our O-fense!

After the ND game I saw very little to be optimistic about our offense.

But we could have scored 60 on Samford and did score 35 on a decent Troy team.

We could have scored 35 on UVA, I think but we went into an offensive hibernation in the middle of the third (to milk the clock). UVA has no offense but does have a half decent defense.

I'm beginning to be much more optimistic about our offense.

I've always thought if we could average 25 points per game of offense we would win 9 or more games per year...

I agree w/ everything you said....We shut our offense down in the 3rd quarter & milked the clock for rest of the game...especially after CJ's long TD reception....
Do you think that was to keep some surprises in our pocket for VT....b/c we didn't want to show our entire hand or just happened to be enough to secure the "W"....
I think we will have much better gut feeling after we play VT....

Re: Right, VT will tell the tale!

Our OL concerns will be answered one way or the other and will pretty well spell out the rest of the season. If there's no push or protection, Miami, Clemson, and ugag will be long days. If they can perform against VT's DL, a 10 win season is very possible, not to mention the end of the drought! THWG

I think a lot of our OL problems start with RB. I don't know how many holding penalties we got due to RB leaving the pocket EVERY time when he had protection. I was pleased with CJ's first TD catch which was thrown in the pocket. I still see his inability to throw in the pocket. Also, I don't agree with lobbing the ball in the air for CJ to go get it. It seemed to work, but UVA's secondary looked clueless. That wouldn't work against a well coached secondary. Our question marks have not changed since game one. Even though ND won, we have not been seriously challenged by a good defense. I have said before; I am very concerned about going to Blacksburg, Vick or no Vick. Their defense will be just as good as last season, and our QB seems to be the same as well.

I'm not a believer yet, but I certainly see potential. I like the theory of how it's supposed to work, but I think we do have some limitations at QB that we need to work around with our playcalling.

Most particularly, Reggie doesn't make pressure decisions well, and that's the #1 thing you need to run Speed Option. I think we should take Speed Option out of our set entirely, and just pitch it.

This caused one, almost two turnovers. Granted this was after we were in control, but I don't know how good RB is at pitching the ball.

It is working so much better than the pro-style offense of years past. I am definitely jumping on the band-wagon. It is just suited towards Reggie Ball's Strengths which is something we neglected to consider the past few years. The option hasn't worked that well, but we can't throw it out because that is what has set up the reverses that has been working wonderfully, plus it is the spread option that we are running anyway.

On a side note...How about Tashard's run late in the game? That is the kind of thing I've been waiting on him to do all season. A few of those againt VT would suit me just fine;) (without the penalty though).

He had a couple of those vs Troy, I thought.

The shotgun runs we're calling won't get 4 yards as reliably as the Gailey I, but they'll get Tashard into space to break long ones more often.

I have to hang my head in shame. I was beating up on the O-plan in the beginning, but it does seem to be working rather well now. I'm not fully on the bandwagon yet, but I'm jogging behind it to keep up.

Tashard could have had another big run if he hadn't tripped over his blocker's leg on one run up the middle. I hate that his big run was called back for a clipping away from the ball.

Are you watching the same team as everyone else? Or do you just have a beaf with RB? Did he bully you in high school or something?

Reggie has played three really good games. Stop beating him up until he actually deserves it. If his WR's would stop dropping passes, he'd have a lot better numbers.

PLUS, it's hard to stand back in the pocket while the DL is breathing down your neck. Did you see the UVA player come untouched on CJ's second TD? I'd move too.

I agree. I think it's because things work here and there but we still haven't pulled the entire thing together. But, there's no reason why the offense shouldn't be getting better every week.

Dude, there is NO WAY you can blame a QB for lack of pass protection.
