I'm not sure why we play UGA anymore

If you think it is not a rivalry, let us beat them one time --- something that may happen under a new coach
 
Georgia won 7 from 91-97.

Tech won 8 from 49-56.

I do know why we play UGA, we should be beating them every once in a while, at least. Georgia's our biggest rival, but we aren't theirs b/c they've won 7 in a row. But look what happens when we win: we get 3 in a row, they fire a 9 win/season coach. But now those same buttlickers (Buck Belue) thinks Chan has earned his 4 years left. Of course he would say that! He can't beat you! But I digress, Georgia thinks of Florida as their biggest rival, b/c they've only beaten them twice in the last 15 years. But ask Florida who their biggest rival is, not Georgia, they can handle Georgia. For them it'd be F$U, with whom they have a much more even series. Let's win 3 or 4 in a row, then ask Georgia who their biggest rival is.

We'll see how good they are in their bowl game. If they play like they did tonight....they'll get their asses handed to them. They didnt play good, and unfortunately our offense played worse.
 
I believe we have now lost 14 of 17 to the Dawgs. They won seven. lost three, now have won 7. The rivalry is in terrible shape. We have had our chances lately, can't finish.

We will continue to play them. And, they will continue to have the upper hand. I sure want to beat them, but somehow we better find a different measure for success than beating UGA. They spoil to many seasons for us.

I do wish we could move the game to early or mid-season, but I doubt it will happen.

why is next year any different? this is the kind of apathy that has led to this, please stop
 
It's a rather streaky rivalry. People put far too much worth into who has the streak of the moment. Understand something:

Georgia doesn't call us less than their rival because they've beat us for 7 straight years. They do it because they're now in a position to compete for the SEC and since they put so much worth on that and were dominated by the teams that kept them out of the race for the better part of the 80's and 90's, they are allocating all of their "rivalry hate" to the game that means the most to them statistically.

When they are losing to Florida, Tennessee and Auburn consistently enough to not be a constant possibility to play in the Dome, then we are the only meaningful game left on their schedule and they want it badly so that they have something to boast about and be fans about.

I'm not saying that it won't help if we start beating them more consistently, but alot of how seriously they take us as their rivals has to do with their performance against their other rivals.

But I'm not really concerned with how Georgia fans look at us, given that most of the people that claim it are idiots. They're our biggest rival and it'll be a while before there's another Ray Goff to claim we weren't their biggest rival, so the players and coaches will look at us in the right light.

Or whatever. Why are you guys making me type so much tonight?
 
We play them because we need to remind ourselves of what it was like when Tech football was an upper tier program, and where we need to strive to be.
 
I've been going to games since I was 5 and think I have only seen us win a handful of times against ga. I have never seen us win in athens. My wife has never seen us beat ga and we just had our 6th anniversary. We have been to every game since 51-7.

When I was a kid, my foggy memory remembers us being whipping boys (these were Bill Curry years). The light broke with Ross, and only since then I have expected to beat ga every year, sans the Bill Lewis years. O'Leary and co. had me expecting to beat ga every year.

When Gailey came around, I expected us to not win due to transition, but I figured that after 2 years, we would be back on the horse. We got back on the horse and were competitive until this year. This was the first year since 2003 that I didn't expect us to win or, for that matter, be competitive.

For the next two years, I don't expect us to be competitive with them again. They are rising, we are falling (I hope we're at the low point, but it can go much lower). We just don't have a qb and I think Tenuta is tired of losing and won't be around for the extent of Chan's contract, should he stay.

Does anyone recall a time when the rivalry was good? I would consider our rivalry with Clemson right now to be great. We win some and lose some. We trade games and have some real classics. When was the last time we have had consistent classic matches with ga?

Georgia Tech is very close to being relegated to a 3rd tier program along the lines of Vanderbilt and Tulane. Get rid of Chan Gailey now or this program will sink to what it was in the early 1980s.
 
GT has had the team to beat UGA for the last 3 years... we are lacking bad in depth and money... GT's fault. My best friend just graduated from GT...i lacked the drive to be a GT student. His exact words were "everybody hates UGAG but nobody cares about football they are more worried about the exams." Tech is about research and doesnt give a crap about football. Like it or not!
 
As long as our memory of days gone by remains good, we can believe that the football landscape hasn't changed since the 50's and that we'll be back on top again.
 
Lets dont ask for someone else to do the dirty work just because we cant. Give credit where credit is due, they have a legit top 10 program and will for a long time since they have one of the top 10 coaches in america.
