Not wanting to get too consumed by the 2002 season, and longing for the days when Tech was a real power, I'm starting a full computer replay of the 1956 football season.
I got the software and set it up today. The replay will include every game played by every major college team in 1956, and they will all play their actual schedules.
No replay can promise to be scientifically accurate, and it's possible Tech won't match its real life 10-1 (7-1 SEC) mark. But, the Yellow Jackets should be a very good team.
The computer will give me a full description of every game and individual and team stats. It will also let teams go to the bowls they earn invitations to in the replay.
Our captains that year were Wade Mitchell and George Volkert. Tech gave up just 33 points in 10 regular season games, and was ranked between 2nd and 4th the whole year.
It was the final season of Coach Dodd's glory years and included his 100th win, Tech's eighth straight victory over the Bulldogs, and the Jackets' sixth bowl win in six years.
Tech played Ky, SMU, LSU, Auburn, Tulane, Duke, Tenn, Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Pitt in the Gator Bowl. If anybody's interested in weekly summaries, I'll post them.
