If Georgia Tech had actually beaten UGA and Wake Forest last year, they would have headed to the Orange Bowl without their #1 quarterback and their #1 shut-down corner.

This, of course, assumes that Reg and KScott would have still failed out under completely different circumstances.

The reason I ask this is because noone seemed to want to hold the head man in charge accountable for this. This was the 2nd major flunking of key GT personnel under Gailey. How do you let two key starters fall off the monitoring process when it comes to making the grade?

I ask this because I don't want to see it again and I'd also like to get some common knowledge when it comes to monitoring our players progress in the classroom.

Again, just assume we headed into our first ever BCS game without two major contributors. How mad would you have been at Gailey?

I wll say this. when they announced Reggie Ball was not going to be playing for GT, it made me smile.

How do you know the monitoring process wasn't in place? Monitoring isn't the same as ensuring they pass.

Me to!:D:D

Also, if i remember correctly, didnt WF play Lville. I think we ended up playing the harder of those two teams with WV, imo. We could have beat Lville even without those two players.

Quite frankly, those were senior players and the monitoring system was in place. I'd be upset if we saw this with freshman and sophomores--and we haven't.

There is much I don't like about Chan Gailey--including that he doesn't believe he needs to motivate each individual player to man up for gameday each week--but, part of coaching young men is to teach them how to take responsibility for their own lives. By the time you are a senior at GT, especially with a strong academic support system, you should have the academic side of your house in Georgia. If you are still depending on your coach to kick your butt into gear--you won't make it far in life when you graduate from GT. Gailey gets this, and it is one of the things I do like about Chan Gailey.

We damn near beat WVU. I was at that one, and we were in it for every play.

Do you honestly think Reggie Ball would have been declared ineligible if we made the Orange Bowl?

A very interesting point, with a lot of validity, but BOR got it right. We all just sighed in relief that there was some reason to watch the Gator Bowl. I think I'd rather nail railroad spikes through my brain than watch Reggie play after his performance in the ACCCG, following UGA, following UNC / etc.

I feel bad for Reggie. He played his heart out for GT. It's not his fault the coaches didn't bench him.

Oh well, he did talk a lot of smack.

They both said it themselves...they had no one to blame but themself. They were maxed tutored...they were seniors and knew the drill...both knew what they had to do and did not get it done.

I say that it was a miracle that our staff kept them eligible for 4 years...particularly with all of KS's off-field distractions and Reggie being in his hometown of Hotlanta.

This isn't UGa.

You're fooling yourself if you think we hold our athletes to a much higher standard than other schools. Whether it's teachers doing it, coaches doing it, or even other students giving answers or doing work for athletes, it happens here too. I've seen it firsthand. Obviously pure speculation, but if we had made a BCS bowl I think he would have been playing.

Do you actually think the Orange Bowl would have made a difference from the Gator Bowl?

I disagree. They would have been sitting just like Joe Burns and didn't we lose a starting QB b/f the All-american bowl?

There will always be some academic casualties at GT. Some of those will happen to be student/athletes.

I dont think we have to worry about the BCS with this head coach

Yes, because he sucked his last 2 games.

Haha...are you trying to say we would have not let Reggie Ball play because he performed poorly in game? That doesn't seem very consistent with our past decisions regarding him....

Well, the Gator Bowl is a relatively minor bowl played in a half empty stadium Jacksonville, and the Orange Bowl is a BCS bowl, the pinnacle of playing in the ACC...I think it would have made a difference, personally.

Well, I think you're totally wrong. Those guys didn't get it done in the classroom and it was end of the semester before it became obvious. What is it you think could have been done differently? Let them take and exam over? You're reaching.

Well, what they said happened in the case of Reggie(who got a D in the class that knocked him out of school) was there was a mix-up with his final project being emailed in late or something and the teacher gave him a zero(which I could see happening, I was in the class and the teacher was ridiculous...). I don't think that it's inconceivable for them to ask the teacher to give him at least a little credit for his project even though it was in late(and, according to him, was done on time) so that he could get a C in the class. Hell, normal students do that all the time(or at least try to) by appealing their grades.
