I think this is the last thing I'll say on this matter, but I need to do it: first off, Gailey truly understands what he got into when he took the HC job here. I have nothing to back this up with except every conversation on tv and radio that I've seen/heard. He loves being at Tech! What more can you and I want? Some guy who thinks Tech as the launchpad for his dream job (aka O'leary)?!?!
IMHO, the Smith and Robinson thing was ugly for him because he knew he was completely screwing over their respective families. Its easy for us to sit on a message board and say that he lied, Tech is this and that, and this person should be fired. Its not so easy when you want to hire the guy, actually do hire him, and then a couple weeks later have fire him. Just because we have had one only minor (and very minor) violation ever by the NCAA, doesn't mean we don't have heart. While I agreed that something needed to be done about Smith/Robinson, Clough, Braine, and Clough stepped up and handled the situation well.
Some folks have questioned whether or not Gailey understands college football and recruiting. Here is what I want to say: if Gailey can coach the players we have and the ones we recruited, we will do fine next year. About losing some of the local prospects...I went to high school in Florida, with all the nice weather and women...and no matter who was recruiting me for college, there was no way I would have stayed in Florida. Would I have entertained Florida schools because my parents wanted me to stay close to home? Absolutely, because I care about my parents. But when I had to make the decision, would I bolt?? Um...I graduated from Tech, my parents are still in Florida...what else do I have to say?
Some prospective recruits made the decision to go to UGA, Auburn, and Arkansas. Lets wish them all luck in whatever they do...but lets forget about them...there a few kids who signed up for a lot of pain with Ma Tech ;-) Welcome to the family...and I'll be there on Thursdays and Saturdays watching you play!!
