I do still miss the option. These boys look like they are running it without cut-blocking. It would be awesome if we could run a few veer plays, sans cut-blocking, and have a "multiple offense". Don't get me wrong! I thoroughly enjoyed our offensive production last week. But I think that we could catch some folks off-guard by throwing in some veer, maybe even from shotgun, ala Chadwell.

If I want to celebrate CPJ and the option, that's my call, not yours. I'm not trying to convince anyone that we should go back to it as our base offense. But don't forget that we ran a good bit of option with Joe Hamilton under Ralph Fridgen as OC, and it could still be a very effective tool in our toolbox, when sprinkled in @ the right times.

I like the way King ran it the other night on his long run!

They are quick to snap after the set, you don't see much of that anymore. It kind of makes the defense pick a man beforehand and live or die by the choice. Most teams even in college aren't disciplined enough to start plays that way these days, it would just be a ton penalties.

I love the option in a multiple set offense. I typically had a triple and speed option looks when I was coaching. It’s very effective in certain situations.

A little history here; a lot of what the option offenses were derived from was the “belly series” that Dodd brought out in the early 50s. He picked it up from a high school coach in Kentucky, who I think he eventually employed.

Fridge used the option with Hamilton quite a bit, not so much with the Goose. But I still remember that TD Goose had on UGA keeping the ball off the option, that was hilarious. I think having an option series with King at QB would be great … spring it on UGA.

That was the "The Goose is Loose" play!
