In Nice Shape in ACC Coastal

In aftermath of squeaker by MD, and in view of 2 almost-certain wins against UNC and Dookies, we are in excellent shape. Consider our major competitors:

VT - Plays at BC, Wake, and Miami and home against Clemson. I just can't see them sweeping those 4.

Miami - Plays at GT and improving MD & UVa and home against VT & BC. I see them easily losing a couple of those.

UVa - I don't consider them a serious competitor - Haven't beaten anybody real yet.

Bottom Line - If we take care of UNC and Duke and get the home win against Miami, we should be in. Beating Chuckie-boy would be nice insurance. Gotta admit, I'm not real confident about next week in Death Valley, but a loss wouldn't kill our chances by any means.

That's OK - we play 'em in two weeks ;)

Oops - My bad! Forgot we had that week off in the middle of the season. Why is that anyway (early ND game?).

Too bad Clemson is playing Temple - A physical game and/or a game requiring a lot of preparation would have given us a big advantage with the extra week. Does give us some extra time to work on special teams - Can't afford to give anything away against Clemson like we did against MD!

Hey you never know the formidable Temple Owls who hail from Philadelphia may pull an upset.:laugher: In all seriousness, that would be awesome but it will absolutely not happen. Climpson could play their practice squad against the Owls and still win.

speaking of clemson... anyone know why they're playing temple in charolette, nc? And another humorous note... John Deere advertises on clemsons athletic website :laugher:

I can only guess that they're doing it for their players from the area, as well as to invite a whole lot of recruits from the Charlotte high schools. I wouldn't mind seeing us doing something similar in Jacksonville, which is shaping up to be our best recruiting ground outside of Georgia. Actually, come to think of it, we'll already be playing a game in JAX this year. ;)

They'll probably get most of their normal fan base as Charlotte isn't that far and it would be a nice little game day trip for them. Plus they will get some of the Charlotte area locals and get to play in an NFL stadium. Nice win-win for them and their fans.

This is Temple's "home" game. They moved it for the extra revenue.

Some of the weaker teams in the ACC and SEC did this a few years ago with conference games (e.g. Duke's "home" game against F$U in Orlando (1995) and Mississippi State's "home" games against Florida in Tampa (1989) and Orlando (1991)) but then both conferences outlawed the practice.

If we start wishing for what might squeek us by then we will lose. Let's just win them all and play for the NC like we originally wanted to do.

It's not out of the question.

If we run the table, we will have a legitimate shot at playing in Tempe.

Those glasses are getting a bit too gold. Although it looks better now that Auburn lost to a pretty lowly ranked team, we'll still need a good many upsets to get there. Our computer rankings won't be that good with the down ACC, and we have OSU, UM, UF, and the Louisville-WVU winner in front of us.

Not saying it's an absolute certainty that it won't happen, but I don't think that all of OSU, UM and UF will lose two games.

If by 'legitimate shot' you mean about a one in five chance, I agree.

I will say that if we run the table, we have a very legitimate shot at ending the season ranked #2, above whoever loses the NC game.

But I don't think there's any better than a 1/3 chance that we run the table. Our chances to make the ACC Championship might be better than Miami's or VT's, but not significantly better. Yet. And then there's the ACC Championship game. And then there's whether or not all the other higher ranked teams picked up key losses.

A one loss team from the SEC, Big 12, Big 10, Big East, or USC/ND, is going to go before a one loss ACC team will this season, because the preseason ACC favorites lost early. We'd need lots of teams to get 2 losses before we could have a chance to go.

So yeah, keep dreaming. A top 10 finish is guaranteed if we win out, though, possibly even if we drop one more.

Nah, I think there will be at least 2 undefeated teams at year's end, maybe 3. We have no shot at the MNC in that situation no matter what we do.

I think the rest of our games will be a hard fought games as it was with Maryland........even N.C. .......I hope not Duke. Georgia certainly will.

Even if we win out I just don't think we will get the votes needed to make Tempe.

Beej,
I see V/T sweeping these 4 with Clemson being their thorn in the flesh. V/T wins anyway.

BC may present a hurdle for VT but I'm thinking VT will win a tight one in that game.

GT's thorns are naturally Clemson, but we do have a week to glue some bones back together and sew up some cuts, also good time to work on the Spec Teams. Another thorn for GT I'm afraid will be NC St.
They did beat Fl St, and even though FSU is struggling, they are still FSU.

Miami....hard call for me. Yes they are struggling, yes we beat them last year, but also yes, they want to get even. Miami will play their best game of the year against GT this time around. Who wins? dunno...whoever comes out w/the most marbles.

I am still up in the air about Clemson. I can not tell how good they are. I thought last weeks game against Wake would show me something but if anything I feel better now about our defense stopping there offense. Wakes Defense wore down by the end of the game, but We are a much better offensive team then Wake. I think our offense is good enough to keep our defense from being on the field as much as Wakes was. If anything I feel more confident we can pull the upset in Death Valley. Our special teams still worry me though.

That would suck since the game is being played in Glendale Stadium in Glendale, Arizona which is a whole 30 minutes away.
