Here is an early guess of what I expect this season. Some ups, some downs. Some disappointment, but something to take with us in the off-season. My question is…How would you feel about this type of season in 2008?
GT 63
JSU 0
Though putting up a lot of points, the Jackets new offense looks a little sloppy. However, the Jackets are just too fast for the JSU defense. The passing game may actually be more of a highlight than the new Triple Option that everyone came to see. The score gets run up some as CPJ leaves the starters in for the entirety of the game to get as many reps as possible before making the trip to Chestnut Hill.
GT 21
BC 20
The Jackets, still a little sloppy, lay the ball on the ground a few times that ultimately lead to early BC touchdowns. However, a couple of big plays put the Jackets right back in the game. The game was close, but without the poise and leadership of former QB Matt Ryan, the Eagles were unable to move the football when it mattered most.

The Jackets, coming of a big win in Chestnut Hill, travel to Lane Stadium to battle the Hokies of Virginia Tech. The GT offense looks better at securing the football, but they are no match for the speed and athleticism of the Hokie’s defense. The offense tacks one on late, but the Jackets are blown out by the Hokies 42-10.
* Now starts the talk regarding the Triple O against top D-I defenses.
GT 17
MSU 21
The Jackets return home to meet the Bulldogs of Mississippi State. Defense is the name of the game as both teams really struggle to move the ball down field. Tech goes up late but the Bulldogs answer as the clock expires.
GT 21
Duke 17
Finally, the Yellow Jacket fans feel that they can relax a little with the Blue Devils in town. Not so fast my friend, the Dukies are 3-1 and coming off a big conference win versus the Hoos of Virginia and are looking for another in Atlanta. The game is a nail biter and the Jackets feel lucky to have come away with victory.
GT 42
GW 10
The Jacket’s offense looks the best that they have all year versus a far inferior Gardner-Webb defense. The Jackets look a little tight out of the gate, but score big in the second and third quarters to defeat the Runnin’ Bulldogs.
* Again the talk of the Triple O versus D-I opponents
GT 41
Clemson 17
Wow, no one saw this one coming. The Jackets travel to Death Valley and completely dominate the Tigers defense. The Jacket nation is buzzing after this huge upset. Are the Jackets finally firing on all cylinders???
GT 21
UVA 17
The Jackets return home after their big win versus the Tigers…but can they prevent the let down after such a big win. UVA comes in as a complete wild card. The Hoos gave Southern Cal a very tough game in their season opener and they managed to knock off the Maryland Terrapins and the Tar Heels of the North Carolina. However, loses to Richmond, Duke, and East Carolina have the nation’s head swimming about the deal in Charlottesville. The Hoos have come to play, but the Jackets prevail…thanks to a solid defensive performance and some great field position provided by the return teams.
GT 17
FSU 34
In a game that seemed a lot closer than the score, the Jackets simply could not get the points in the red zone. Christian Ponder has his best start since officially taking over for Drew Weatherford two weeks earlier.
GT 21
UNC 41
After a rough start to their 2008 campaign, the Heels have definitely looked better of late. Can the Heels stretch their current winning streak to 5 games? Unfortunately, yes.
GT 42
Miami 17
It’s Thursday night and after a week off the Jackets got some much needed rest. The Canes defense has looked monstrous all year posting wins over Florida, Texas A&M, and Florida State. However, they are looking to get back on track after a bit of a let down versus Virginia Tech…but it isn’t happening tonight. Turnovers kill any momentum provided by the defense as the Jackets score on three straight possessions. The Miami offense never really gets going as the Jackets take their 4th win in a row versus the canes.
GT 21
UGA 31
The Jackets are bowl eligible and coming off an impressive win versus the Canes. Could this be the year that the Jackets finally beat the Dawgs. UGA has been impressive all year, posting wins in Tempe, Baton Rouge, and Jacksonville. After securing their spot in the SEC Championship Game, Georgia’s national title hopes were crushed, as an up and down Auburn team took the Dawgs to the woodshed in Jordan-Hare Stadium. Will the Dawgs be more focused this week or will they get caught looking ahead to their rematch with Alabama in the Georgia Dome. No looking ahead this week. The Dawgs show up to play and the Jackets drop their eighth in a row to the Dawgs.
Humanitarian Bowl
GT 28
Boise State 17
The Jackets head out west once again to play the WAC champion Boise State Broncos on their home field. The analyst have this one as a toss up, giving a slight edge to Boise due to the home field advantage, the blistering cold, and Tech’s past performances in these types of games. However, the Jackets get it done in the snow and end the season on a high note.
* Final record
(8-5) overall
(5-3) conference
