Insightful post about our offensive play calling...

This was an insightful post from 'nodawgs' on the Rivals premium board that I am going to break rule on and post it to settle some folks down...a lot to learn from it in response to a question about our running attack Saturday...and various pass plays.

"The two main run plays that were used were #(1) Zone Sniper in which you let an aggressive nosegaurd lose (free to run toward the back field) and trap him with the fullback. When you saw Cox motion and then "sniper" the nose that was it. It slows down the interior line and gets either your center or your gaurd to the MLB. #(2) was Power G which allows your undersized line to block bigger D-linemen by down blocking. The backside gaurd pulls to lead on the playside linebacker. When you have an active end like Quentin Moses you let him go (invite him to run up field) by releasing your TE to the MLB and kicking him out with your FB. In other words you let the DE take himself out of the play and give your FB an easy block on an otherwise difficult to block DE. The bottom line here with both of these plays is you let aggressive defenders take themselves out of the play.

As for coverage, UGAY had the FS aligning wider than usual over Calvin, which should leave the middle of the field more open, but as others have mentioned Reggie's height (release more than height) takes that out of play. Its more of a case of Reggie's release being low which is why he tends to let the ball sail high. Joe Hamilton had a higher release and rarely threw high passes or had balls batted. I would have liked to see Tech run a tunnel screen and use the Cadilac play (post/dig combo) which was used vs Maryland on James Johnson's deep TD catch. You run Cadilac off of the "Power G" play action and leave your backs in to give yourself max protection.

I don't think we've seen but maybe a 1/3 of what Nix will do in the following years. If you saw Taylor Bennett in the Duke game you saw him throwing skinny posts and seam routes, which Reggie just can't do. Reggie has earned the right to finish out the season. I'm not going to say that he is the best choice, but I support Gailey for sticking by Reggie."

Good post. I'm looking forward to seeing our offense after Nix has a year to scheme around a true QB. Nix was very successful at the schools he coached at before GT and I think he's had his hand tied somewhat by such an inadequate QB.

Why does he deserve. That is like me being a virgin and FINALLY get the chance to score. When the girl is ready, I just say, "Well I have stuck with my right hand for so long, I really I should keep masturbating" I apologise for any horrid images this analogy caused, but if it looks like and smells like it.

I don't question CCG trying to do the right thing. The problem is he put himself(CCG) in that situation. He wasn't open to options early on, so he felt as if he had to do the right thing and respect the kid. Did not really teach a life lesson for RB by being complacent with the QB situation.

I think the real chance to unseat Reggie was in 2004, when we didn't have any real options. I saw Pat Carter in the Samford game and I was not impressed. Taylor Bennett really had his chance to unseat Reggie like Tom Brady did at the Patriots and he had a pretty underwhelming game against UConn.

Our team would have been much better over the past few years if we had a real QB recruit that panned out in the 2001 through 2003 classes.

you know....the main part of that post was not the sticking with Reggie part...it was the play calling.

The end of your post was that RB deserves to fininsh the year. My point is that you have to take your hand off of your Peck#r once in a while and take a chance to score(find another option). We may not have had a better option in 2004, but last year is inexusable.

Again with the hand/pecker analogy! Well, I guess we are talking about how best to use our Johnson and Ball. :laugher:
