I know we have beat this dead horse multiple times before, but saw a blog post on another site that I have never heard before. According to this blog, not having a 16 team playoff series has cost the NCAA 4.8 billion dollars. The blog does not give a citation for where he gets his numbers (His quote:"It is very easy to talk to a few network TV executives, media buyers, and corporate marketing honchos and figure out how much college football and collegiate athletic programs will leave on the table this year"), so would love for someone to check his accuracy.

But seeing these numbers, makes another argument against the Big10's stance against playoffs.

...but how much would it cost the BCS monopoly conferences to open up the playoff to the non-BCS?

That's the rub.

how much would it cost them when their ratings go down for regular season games?

The NCAA makes no money on football. They lost control when Oklahoma and UGa beat them in court and will not stop untill that power is regained.
