Unless I'm booching basic arithmetic, this year's (pretty darn good) recruiting class will be seniors for the last year in Chan's contract.

Ha!

Funny observation!

I have a feeling that it won't be the last year of Chan's contract then.

Exactly, if he keeps on reeling in recruits like these, he will be at GT well beyond the year his contract ends.

As they should be, expectations will be mighty high!

Hopefully by then, a post season field trip to the inaugural Mango Bowl won't be considered a successful season. ;)

At least we didn't play in the "San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl"

Good point.

Seriously, even though I throw many tongue in cheek comments on this board, it's only done so when I believe it's too much pep rally versus "we can do better".

The original post is right, but much has to be done to keep the momentum going. If we do end up signing most to all of this stellar '07 class, much more will be expected from Chan Gailey to make sure the '08 class and beyond is every bit as talented. That's the way it goes, but if he can do it he will validate the confidence given him this last year. Winning will do that.

I like Chan Gailey, and have wanted him in the role he has now for a few years. If...he can get comfortable with being the GM of of this program, we will be in great shape. Of course, that means his continued Mastery at closing on recruits and doing a better job of evaluating coaching talent quicker.

We are just better than the Nut, Seattle, Silicon Valley, Humanitarian, etcetera bowls. The minimum level of bowl game for Tech should be Gator and Peach.

This year's recruiting is proving that. Go Jackets!

agreed!
(although last year we just got screwed on the bowl...but that is history)

Yeah, but someone has to coach/develop these recruits to their full potential, something that we seem to be lacking in...and hopefully he will.

And you can't say you got screwed on a bowl after losing to an "inferior" team pretty badly. How can we say we deserved a better bowl when we got embarassed in the one we thought we were too good for?

Sorry, but I enjoy being the devil's advocate.

While QB development is certainly arguable, I think the coaching staff has maximized the potential of most or all of our recruits over the past few years, and the differential between our recruiting rank and our record shows that.

The biggest thing I worry about isn't whether the coaches can continue to coach up our recruits, its whether we keep the good assistants we've got.

I'm chomping at the bit to see next year's recruiting class. If we get two more that are as solid as this, solid meaning top to bottom quality, not necessarily superstarish, we should be a very deep team.

The problem with our recruiting classes of the past few years, if you go back and look, is that there simply isn't a high ratio of talent that can start. We've got quality players, but we've also got a lot of filler. The class this year is all players with the talent to start, no filler. That's what really makes it stand out IMO.
