Looking back over the past years, Chan's teams always seem to lose games in pairs. It was clear that this team wasn't focused coming in. UVA was ready and ran it down our throats more than one time. By the time we actually "showed up" it was too late.

Chan does a terrible job preparing our teams. Reading their quotes they seem to think they were going to get back to Jacks by just showing up. What other conference team was bragging as much as we were in the conference.

Now look at us, we are tied for freaking worst in the ACC. If Chan doesn't get this thing turned around, I want him gone after this season.

If we go 7-5 again and lose to UGA Gailey will be gone.

that's the thing that worries me , we'll have another blah season, and beat uga to make us 7-5. Some will say that beating uga is enough, but i'm not in that crowd. If we have more most talent and depth in a while and end with the same result, Chan's not getting it done and we need to move in a different direction.

Hopefully we can turn it around. Chan is playing for his job at this point. A strong win against a good Clemson team will help his case alot.

I've given up on getting rid of Chan. We can't even afford it. 7-5 has proven to be very acceptable, the question is whether 6-6 or worse is? Doesn't this team have more talent than that?

Going into the season I would have said we did, now I'm not so sure.

Fixed.

All benchmarks regarding our 'record' are worthless at this point. Chan's job depends on beating UGA, and that's all there is to that.

Not true at all. If we go 10-3 on the season with an orange bowl berth he's not getting fired.

Forget the chances of us winning 10 games.. ..have you even conceived what the chances of us winning 10 games and VT losing 2 in conference and Miami losing 2 in conference and UVA losing 3 in conference and us beating either Clemson twice or BC once?

It would take a miracle, a lever, and two acts of congress just to get us to the ACCCG at this point. UGA is all that's left, as of this afternoon.

Well it is a mistake to look ahead to anything except the present game. Have we not learned that once again?

But otherwise, yes, we are a decent team missing some key positions and it is very likely we now go about 6-5 going into the UGA game (maybe 7-4 without any more injuries).

With exception to probably UNC at home --there is not a game left on the schedule that I am overlooking ...and yes that includes vs Army, who hung @BC for over 2 1/2 quarters and @Duke, see 2003.

I have no idea how this team will finish up this year --we're already feeling the disappointment of losing the seemingly winnable game --happens every year. Clemson at home, @Maryland and @Miami --this is a tough stretch that will require winning two-out-of-three in order to have any hope of finishing with a decent season this year.

Not really. Say we run the table in conference. That means we'll beat VT and UM. All they need is one more in-conference loss. UVA could lose their last 3 in-conference games to WF, UM, and VT.

The unlikely part is us running the conference table, not those other teams losing.

Say we run the table in conference.

20% chance.

All they need is one more in-conference loss.

70% chance both gets another conference loss. That's being generous.

UVA could lose their last 3 in-conference games to WF, UM, and VT.

Sure, why not, 70% chance UVA loses their next 3 also.

.2*.7*.7=.098

9.8% chance we make the ACCCG.

Got numbers you'd care to substitute?

do you have the data to show your losses in pairs trend analysis. I'm all for findign trends but I think you just stated a fact that ain't one.

Last year we lost our first, won five, lost won, won four, and then lost three so there was no trend carrying over from last year.

I don't feel like looking at 05 but going by memory we didn't lose more than one "pair" that year.

Since we're talking birds-flying-out-of-our-butt hypotheticals here, the best odds for Tech to get to the Orange Bowl probably hinge upon BC running the table and making it to the BCS Championship game without GT appearing in the ACCCG. If we run the table and end up 10-2, that would give VT and Miami their 2nd loss (and a third to BC, 2nd in conference). And UVA will not go undefeated in conference play, which means they would also have two losses going into that game with BC. (Clemson will have a loss to us which would take them out of BCSCG consideration.)

At that point, a BC win in the ACCCG hangs a third loss on the Coastal Div. loser (UVA). Undefeated BC goes to the BCSCG, and the Orange Bowl chooses their representative. A 10-2 Tech team with and 8 game winning streak would look damn good.
