"Everybody knows how big this game is and what it means," Gailey said. "I don't try to hide that... It's the state rival. It's the biggest game. It obviously takes on a magnitude of its own."

Wasn't it about two weeks ago that Chan was telling us the UGay game was no more important than the Dook game?

I wonder if St. Marc thinks the Vandy game is bigger than the Tech game.

Probably....and the UGA squeak-by win over Vanderbilt looms huge today, doesn't it.

At that time...he was correct. You never want to look ahead.

I can understand the context.

Issue is this is the first time in 6 years he has said its the biggest game...that is a fact....

I think there was enough fan backlash after the chernoff interview he is changing some of his statements.

FYI; anyone at practice knows this...there are 6 Hurdles made out of wood (like track hurdles) sitting on rose bowl field with the words "beat UGA" spray painted on each hurdle. Each hurdle probably represents 1 loss the last 6. The staff did this to say we have to get over this hurdle. They have been around since Spring.

So DESPITE people and Chan saying he doesn't use motivational tools he does. Another thing, I wish publicly this type of stuff would be released after the games....There have been games with mousetraps in the locker room for trap games, He let the teams where black shoes and socks for bonus purposes...there have been things he has done similar to Richt...just it seems they go unnoticed. This is where he as a PR rep can do better.

Point is...no matter what Chan says publicly;l he knows its the biggest game. Publicly, he should be stating that; although; I don't think he wanted to send the message he overlooks other games as you state. He isn't a very fluid communicator.

I think you will be hard-pressed to find any coach at any level that is willing to publicly talk about any game that isn't the next game on the schedule, or say anything that fosters a "looking beyond this one" mindset.

Unfortunately, CG is going to get asked about it relentlessly at all times of the season.

Buzzfan, I think it's a timing thing. When Tressel came in a OSU he said his job was to beat Michigan. He didn't say that before his first game, or the week or any other game, but he said it prior to the season starting and has always acknowledged that it, the Big 10 championship and MNC are their goals every year. Chan has always seemed to soft pedal the ugag game, either because he didn't want to overplay it, or wasn't confident in being able to win it, or whatever. The problem is just that, he's left it to everyone to put their own perspective on it.

No you don't talk about ugag the week before the UNC game, you deflect it. But if his feelings were common knowledge he wouldn't have to worry about deflecting it.

Relatively speaking, OSU - Mich >>>>>>> GT - UGA

If only because its a conference game.

Ask 10 UGA fans and 8 will tell you these are all bigger than the Tech game:
  1. Florida
  2. Tenn
  3. Auburn
  4. SC

This is true. UGA fans only spend about 1 week worrying about the Tech game, yet we Tech fans spend all year waiting for it...kind of sad.

If the rivalry was more competitive they would spend more time worrying about it and those responses would change. If we were to start winning some again, the whole line of thinking would change.

You have to remember - just as we have a new generation of GT folks that haven't experienced beating UGAg after losing 6 in a row (man does that hurt to type), UGAg has a new generation of folks who haven't experienced losing to GT...

Losing 6 in a row to us would have the bullpup nation up in arms declaring that the end of the world is near and how dare their coach not be able to beat us...

they would never accept losing 6iar, ask jim donnan he lost 3 and lost his job. i may be wrong somebody can correct me if i am but, i think his winning percentage was better than the chanster.

Donnan was mainly let go because he had a huge internal drug use issue with his players. Quitsy led the way by failing some drug tests...which they had brushed under the carpet.

Had he been whipping tech, fl and auburn the whole campus could have been on drugs and he would not have been let go, give me a break.

Most of the campus is already on drugs, but I agree, he got fired because he couldn't beat his rivals.

fine...go with the general media outlet version

that definitely played a big role...but he and the Prez clashed big-time over some internal handlings. Quitsy being knowingly on drugs and being allowed to play without suspensions was huge.

Then we clearly need to start selling NoShawn some NoCaine.
