From the AJC.

Georgia Tech leads the ACC in penalty yards (58.7 per game), while their opponents have been penalized for the fewest (23.7 per game). So the Jackets are giving up 35 yards a game on penalties.

Us having so many penalties makes sense (new schemes on both sides + the number of FR and SOs getting significant minutes). Opponent penalties is more difficult to explain although I haven't noticed too many missed calls watching the games.

it shows how disciplined we have become

It shows how young we are in both experience and the scheme we run.

It would be interesting to see how many of those penalties/yards are illegal motion/shift/formation/false start/etc. calls versus penalties not impacted by the option.

Seems like we've been nailed for numerous stupid personal fouls this year - But that's nothing new - Happened fairly frequently under Gailey as well.

On the other hand, the fact that our opponents are averaging the lowest number of penalty yards per game is a strong indication of the typical home crowd/atmosphere influence on ACC refs. Hopefully, we can reap some benefit from that vs Duke, UVa, F$U, and THugU. Hopefully, BDS will be rocking for those games (OK, maybe not for the Dookies).

BTW, are we getting SEC refs for the game tomorrow, or a split crew, or a "non-partisan" crew? I'm assuming it would certainly not be an ACC crew (but I don't know if that's necessarily a bad thing, anyway).

We have had at least two blocking penalties for 15 yards each. I also remember several false starts.

I wonder where BC and VT finished in penalties last year. I'll bet they were both pretty good about not getting called for a lot of penalties.
