What about the other 30k that go to UGAg?

I'm not saying those schools are awful. I'm saying USuCk and Columbia are.

Re: Just curious...do alumni from other schools

Honestly, what percentage of scholarship players go to college to earn their degree. There are the select few that go to college and actually look at academics. I think the only reason they even look at academics is because they dont think they are good enough to go to the NFL.
Did you know that the practice teams for NFL make around 200,000 dollars a year. A mediocre college player can make the practice squad.
I always say this, if you havent been to an SEC game at a big school, you havent experienced college football. I had never been to a game other than GT. When I went and saw ugaG @ USC, I was shocked. The atmosphere and dedication of the fans was unbelievable.
My point to this is that I just dont see why a good recruit would go to GT and have to suffer through the academics. I would say 90% of kids arent looking at schools for their academics. They are looking at the fan base, coeds, and the way they treat their players, such as training facilities, stadium, bowl games).

Re: Just curious...do alumni from other schools

I find it amazing that some of us can't figure out why an athlete would want to come to our school to put up with the academic requirements, then we fault Chan for not signing enough 4 and 5 star players.

Here's the deal on Batchelor and Thomas - Spurrier is recruiting our oral commitments hard for two years running.
Chan needs to fight fire with fire. Go after his verbals. Find someone who might like a GT degree, life in Atlanta, playing for the Jackets. Invite 'em to weekends, at least irritate the evil genius.

Since Curry did not retain Spurrier as OC the old ball coach has disliked both Tech and Bill. Yes, verbals are non-binding. And, every one will go after a soft verbal if it is clear they are wavering. But, if Spurrier wants to be aggressive toward our guys then let's go after him. (As Chan is a fellow Gator, who knows what kind of history the two of them may have?)

For crying out loud, let's help as Tech fans by being clear that we can think of many reasons why a young man will be better off a Yellow Jacket than a Chicken.

Re: Just curious...do alumni from other schools

If it's true that Spurrier is targeting Tech's verbal commits, it's not hard to figure out why...and I doubt it has anything to do with him feeling slighted by Tech or Curry. He is more interested in winning the SEC and a national championship than getting back at an ACC school that wins 7 games year in and year out. In my opinion, the reasons he would go after our recruits is that (1) he knows he has a much more exciting offensive scheme to offer offensive stars, and (2) he knows he's a much more charmismatic recruiter than Chan is. Bottom line: we're easy pickins right now, boys.

Re: Just curious...do alumni from other schools

Is this in fact official. I can find nothing on any recruiting service that has him decommitted from tech to South Carolina.

Re: Just curious...do alumni from other schools

GT, I read an article a few days ago where he was reported to have changed to the 'cocks, citing he verbaled Tech early only to have a place somewhere guaranteed. From that article, it is a done deal. I can't remember where I saw it though.

Re:Forget my last post..

I saw on the Hive where he has just reconfirmed his commitment to us!!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banana.gif

Re: Just curious...do alumni from other schools

He's not even on our schedule and he's whipping us. Dirty Rat Fink! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Re: Forget my last post..

maybe it was Batchelor in that article that I incorrectly remembered.

Re: Forget my last post..

He still being a jacket is excellent news. I love great receivers and he appears to be one. Calvin won't be here forever, so to sign a player with the size of Thomas to line up across from a player with the speed of Earls will make for a pretty formidable tandem.

Hopefully, our recruiting isn't done...but if it is, players with skill like Thomas sure do make next year more interesting

Go Jackets!!!

Bogey, I think you are correct here. Batchelor did say something like that in an article.

That picture....

...at the end of the article!!!! He's a big mutha. I'm pretty sure he'll get in the rotation quickly if he's got any skills at all.

I hope you're right! And - PLEASE - let me in on the secret, as I'm not close to the recruiting. Who is the 'better quarterback"?

As far as pure passing accuracy? I would guess Bennett and Garner. But, we couldn't use them because they aren't mobile enough for our young line.

course the line isn't as young anymore. What I'd give for a QB who could complete 55% of his passes.

our o-line should be stronger, faster, and more experienced though, i say give ball a run for his money and mkae him work his arse off. we need some one breathing down his neck

I think that it is safe to say that Gailey wont be putting up with balls inconsistency this year. If he plays mediocre in the first three games, I say he is gone. Gailey actually has something to build on now, Garner or whoever else is there. It is time for him to start showing his style of offense.
