I was somewhat surprised that DRad pulled the trigger on CG, BUT I AM SHOCKED if he pulled the trigger w/o a candidate in his hip pocket.

Do you remember what a cluster**** the ugag search was w/ Mason reneging?

So I have to believe he has someone in his hip pocket and if that is the case then why not pull the trigger and announce it. I am sure every other school has contacted all our recruits and most will start to waiver VERY SOON.

There was an article in WSJ about how top companies do not have a plan of succession, and how this can cost them MILLIONS.

I can support this decision, but I want another coach yesterday. This is a different situation than when O'leary left us in the lurch.

I hope there are a FEW who ALREADY know who will be the next coach at GT.

If DRad fired CG WITHOUT a replacement then he is REALLY rolling the dice. IMO

Of course he may feel that he has Tenuta in his hip pocket and will pull that trigger if he cannot find another candidate. I would be ok w/ Tenuta. My biggest fear is that Tenuta take another head coaching job and THEY end up naming the stadium after him.

DRad stated he was waiting until the end of the season. It would have just been unseemly if he trotted out the next coach seconds after his firing.

lawbee, I guess you're still pissed about yesterday being the Greatest Day for the Gailey Haters.

I brought this up yesterday, but was sufficiently convinced by other Stingtalkers that he probably has one or several in his hip pocket and must go through the motions to interview for the job, in order to appease certain niceties of the hiring process, including but not limited to the requirement to interview at least one minority.

BOR, in all seriousness lawbee has shown that he is ready to move on. We should, also.

if he has someone in mind, then why did he just hire that committee to help in the search?

You have some very good points. I hope this does not become like the Univ. Miami fiasco last year in their search for a new head coach.

They targeted several A-list guys and had to fall back on their b or even c list guy in Shannon...
Although im not selling Tenuta that short....

But, man did Arkansas and Ole Miss act fast!!

I think you hit it. In his press conference, he also said that there were others whose input would be required and he mentioned a search committee. Texas A&M and Ole Miss are already catching hell about not interviewing a minority.

Ed Pastilong, WVU's AD, was on the radio outlining his method of search and one thing he talked about was that he required his candidate to interview with a number of people on campus like someone from admissions and some SA's. It's not like DRad can just go out and hire someone hisowndamnself.

The GT nation should allow time for a full vetting of all major candidates. This hire needs to be done right. I am getting older and I want to be around for a GT victory over UGAG so I trust DRad to do the "right thing"

While I am sure D-Rad has a primary candidate in mind, I think, like any qualified executive, he needs to go through the process of interviewing several prospective candidates. He has many constituencies to satisfy. He did not get where he is by being a jack off.

Sometimes you have to do some selling internally on your primary candidate and at least give those involved a sense of ownership in the final decision. I feel confident D-Rad is very artful and skilled at accomplishing his objectives.

You can't just come out an announce your guy like Texas A and M did. You see what kind of crap they are catching already. D-Rad is doing it the right way.

Go Jackets!

Very well put. Everybody that has their panties in a wad needs to read this three times then count to 10.

law, don't forget that Hewitt is very involved with the Black Coaches Assoc. You don't think we're going to just hand the job over to someone without going through the process do you?

PH has too many losses this year to be wielding a big stick IMO. And if we are going to FLUSH our recruits down the toilet trying to do the PC thing then someone has their head up their ass IMO.

There is a reason the other schools pulled the trigger early. Time is of the essence and if PH does not understand that then he is an idiot. If you want to interview an african-american then fly him in tonight and do it. If you want to hire an african-american then do that, but to drag around and watch our recruits get picked off one by one is a fools gambit.

I would much rather act and ask for forgiveness then wait and suffer. If we lose 1 recruit b/c we waited that is too many.

There is a reason Nut was hired 6 hrs after he resigned. He is currently recruiting (probably some of our recruits).

This is NOT the NFL where we have players under contract.

I love PH and think he is a great coach but if he does not understand that then he needs to move on to a school that can afford to be politically correct. GT does NOT have that option IMO.

The sooner the better, but coaches really only need the week before the dead period to secure the current commitments so December 10-12 would be the big deadline in my mind. I think that you are overemphasizing time constraints, but once again sooner is better.

I really wish Michigan and Nebraska would hurry up and hire someone so the dominoes would begin to fall.
