is knowshow a redshirt so?

I got into a huge argument with a couple ugag guys over this "housing" major thing...a lot of the athletes are uga are using this as the latest "football" major.

The whole thing is a joke, it's a 4-year major that teaches kids how to get, and keep, section 8 housing vouchers...presuming that's what they are going to need "in the real world" if they don't get to the nfl.

It's a joke and, after working in section 8 housing for 2 years or so and being exposed to the corruption and loophole diving on both sides of the deal, it really, REALLY, pisses me off that this is somehow a legitimate 4-year major at our "flagship" state university.

Exactly what I was thinking and going to type before reading the entire thread. Housing major: How to get Section 8 FTW!

Completing the course-work enables you to qualify for subprime mortgages.

So the coursework consists of 1+1=Pizza, drooling over oneself, and ****ting in a bucket?

I wanted to get a housing degree, but Tech didn't offer it. I had to settle for Electrical Engineering instead.

My sister graduated from UGAg (my parents still pretend like they love her) and one year she lived across the hall from some guys who were in school to get Turf Grass Management degrees.

(Acutally, I read up on the Turf Grass Management degree, and apparently you can make a pretty good career out of it. A lot of them go on to manage the grounds at golf courses and make good money. But "Turf Grass Management" still sounds funny as a major).

I used to mock it too, but like you said it Turf Grass Management can be pretty lucrative. Also, it's not just how to mow lawns, there is actual science involved (developing strains of grass, etc).

UGAg's Experiment Station Campus is here in Griffin. Most of what they do deals with turf/ grasses, etc. My college roommate and his brother both worked there for several years and I got to see what they were doing. Those guys work really hard and the students that are there are really beng set up for a good future. I know that several of them get big jobs doing stadiums, golf courses, etc. Many have their own landscaping businesses and do much better than many people I know that never had a degree, FWIW.

It was never my intent to knock anybody with that degree. As I said in the post, I know it's a respectable career path. My point is just that it sounds funny. Even more so than housing.

No hard feelings, I hope.:D
