Is there any chance whatsoever we use Roddy Jones?

If we open the 2nd half with 30 yards rushing and trailing 7-3 or 10-3 would we use him? I'd love to see him back there and think he might be the best all around back available this Thursday and would hate to see him sitting on the bench.

Richt said he now regreats not using Moreno last year. He'll get him maybe one more year if Moreno leaves after his reshirt soph year. while Roddy doesn't have his moves, he is a similar back with similar high school numbers.

A W this thursday puts an ACCC game at about 40% IMO so it's worth using anyone and everyone.

Can't say I disagree. If it's clear that Evans and Dwyer aren't going to be effective (or if 1 of the above sustains an injury) then use Jones. There's still enough on the line to burn the redshirt.

I would hate to do it, but wouldn't be opposed to it should we need him. We have several good RBs coming in over the next few years, so it wouldn't bother me to burn a year on Roddy if he can help us now.

I'd rather not have to burn his redshirt --particularly as late as game nine in the season. I can't imagine Dwyer not being somewhat effective --and I would like to think that both Dwyer and Evans --as well as Nesbitt on occasions-- can carry us through the next two games.

I'm not totally against using him though. I'd like to be of the mindset that Tech's future recruiting at the RB position (as well as the RB's already here) will be strong enough that the loss of 3/4 of a year of eligibility for one running back will seem like no big deal.

If Dwyer and Evans aren't productive, I doubt Jones would be either. I assume there is a reason why Dwyer did not redshirt but Jones did.

Dwyer > Jones.

We won't see Jones unless Dwyer or Evans goes down, nor should we.

Everyone bitches that Chan doesn't play to win now! We absolutely should use Jones now but it's not just at RB.

We are very thin at WR and the five wides looks like a good idea. Jones can add to the offense like Grant did and we need that style body in there right now.

Also if Dwyer is at RB then we don't need him hurt on kickoffs. Jones might be perfect there too.

Also, Jones getting some practice time would be good for next year as we have so little experience coming back.

Wow Mr. Sunshine, I think a W this Thursday puts an ACCCG at about 10%. Even with a win, we trail 3 teams.

On the other hand a lose Thursday puts an ACCCG at exactly = 0%.

I think Dwyer and Evans can handle the load. Everything is going to fall on TB and the receivers. If we can stop dropping passes, we should be fine.

Either you play to win or you do not. All the times y'all complain about Chan and here now the ACCCG is not out of reach...play Jones.

midatlantech, how do you know that Jones would be the solution at any of those spots? If he's not ready for primetime you're just blowing a year of eligibility for nothing.

There's a reason Roddy still hasn't been used even though our top two RBs have been either injured or hobbled all year. If he was ready to make a difference we probably would have burned the redshirt already, while JD wasn't even considered. I think that tells you the talent difference between the two. Now, if JD or j. evans gets hurt that's a different story, but chan will probably to with tyler evans or, god forbid, jason davis.

Also, if JD is still struggling with blitz-pickups, pass protection, and reading the OL after 8 games, what makes you think Roddy will be able to come in and do these things, especially since he is much smaller and going against the best D we've seen?

I do not think it would be fair to Roddy to burn his redshirt on the 9th game of the season. What a disppointment that would be for him.

btw...Roddy may be the best pure TB on the team at this point. He is wowing the coaches and anyone else that comes to watch practice. he can run inside or outside...shows tremendous burst and cutback ability...plus he is smart as a whip. He picks up offensive and defensive alighments very quickly.

He will combine with Dwyer to form a Davis/Spiller type combination in years to come.

...and yes he can catch and block well.

There's no way Jones plays at all this year no matter what happens at RB for any of the rest of the games.

It would probably be better for him to start out with a clean slate and a new coach next year.

Burning Roddy Jones's redshirt in favor of benching another more experienced equally talented true freshman is not "playing to win," it's foolish.

That said, we may have to burn his redshirt if we have another injury at runningback.

knox, I just hear he's going to be good.

Mr. Dwyer is the future in getting the most carries, but right now, he does not run inside. Mr. Evans runs inside but can't get outside. Mr. Jones fills the void left by Grant and offers some wingback help, etc.

If our running game isn't good, then we lose 3 out of 4 games coming up. Put in Roddy.

And regarding "fairness", who cares. We give them a home, $120,000 scholarship, etc. A back that gets to play 3.4 years is still way ahead of the curve. We can still have a great year this year.

True, but those teams all have 2 games remaining within that pool of 3 teams + 1 other non-gimme.

Who'd you hear that from? And when?

merely curious, hadn't heard that yet
