Safety?
Fla St blocked an extra point attempt by Clemson, picked up the ball and ran it all the way to the other end zone and scored 2 points.

Would this be classified as a "Safety?"

If not, what term is used to identify this score?

I would call it a concern for Clemson. They had 3 consecutive kicks blocked and one cost them the BC game.

Hypothetical trivia - Team A is attempting a 2 point pat by throwing a pass. The pass is intercepted by Team B and run back to the Team A 5 yd line where it is punched out of B's arms from behind by Team A. Another member of Team A who is in the end zone catches the fumble, attempts to run it out, but gets tackled in the end zone by Team B.

Who gets what?

Assuming you can advance a fumble in this situation only one would assume it would be a Safety for Team B.

The catch is since it is an original point after TD or 2 PT's after a TD the rules may state that fumbles may not be advanced after the original fumble or INT by Team A.

I think your example would be a touchback.

So what happens if Team A is going for 2, and the Team A quarterback has a freak LSD flashback and runs the opposite direction 100 yards and takes a knee in his own endzone?

Beej67,
I'm not sure what that scenario is called, but: I could only imagine that happening if Wyatt Sexton comes back in at QB for F$U.

My guess is nobody gets nothing except a bunch of exercise. The original scoring team gets their 6 and then kicks off like they missed the PAT or failed on the converstion attempt.

He's who I had in mind for the example, actually. Bonaroo++

Team B gets a one point safety. I swear I remember a Texas A&M game where this actually happened.

A one point safety? Really?

That's weird. I wanna see the rules on that.

Watching a game on tv a couple of years back where team A had their extra point kick blocked and run back by team B. Team B received one (1) point for this. The tv game commentators explained that Team B was to receive only the one (1) point for this run back and all was accepted and AOK. They also stated that if Team A was attempting a two (2) point conversion and either fumbled the ball away or had a pass intercepted and Team B ran it back to the other end zone, Team B would receive the two (2) points that Team A was trying for.

However in the Clemson game Saturday, Fla St got two (2) points for running that blocked extra point kick back. Hence the reason for my asking the original question, what would the terminology be for this action.

The example I gave was one used when this rule was changed several years ago. The NCAA said that, simply stated, on a PAT if you achieve something that is normally worth 3 points or less (field goal, safety), you get one point. Worth more than 3 (TD), you get two.

The other FSU example would be the same thing.
