Is this the best all-around win of the CG era?

I'm still dizzy from the variety of positive game plays on Sat.Every aspect of the team had EXCEPTIONAL moments. The Offense with the first big pass.THEN scoring a TD,not a FG.The blocked punt ,SpT being special. Then the Offense pouring it on.When has that happened? The DEF of course doing their part even scoring points .Punting great and even KOs and KO coverage.
So we gave up some yardage to passing.Without help from refs VT might have been really hurting.
This has got to be the most complete performance of CG era.
In fact when was our last and best "balanced overall" victory?

From that perspective. Yes.

Most of the other (big) wins the formula was get an early lead and ride the defense out.

Clemson in '04 we won with a solid offense, good special teams but our D let us down at times. But it certainly wasn't a dominating effort like Saturday.

It Is The Best Win I Can Think Of Since The Citrus Bowl

Highly ranked opponent.
Dominated on offense.
Dominated on defense.
Dominated on special teams.

I didn't check the battle of the bands.

Not to be totally pessimistic, but I think VT might have been a little overrated based on their other performances this year. They struggled with Cincy and their fans knew we were better than Cincy so that is why (IMHO) they were extremely polite before the game as opposed to their normal Cocky like last year and at the lightning game.

They have huge problems on the left (blind) side of the OL that were only solved when they started tackling our DL. In the past their very big and deep OL has been the real star of their O. And they have exposure in the secondary while BC and Clemson have quality passing attacks.

IMHO, they will be the 'unfavored' team against Clemson and will not get the benefit of every spot. They most certainly won't be allowed to tackle the Defensive Ends.

With a stretch of BC, Southern Miss, Clemson then Miami, VT has their work cut out for them...

And don't forget that Jahi Word-Daniels was robbed of a couple interceptions that would've taken a big bite out of their passing game (and score).

Not only the most complete game, but quite possibly the most important game. As I'm sure we all know (and have read), the big wins in the past did not have near the potential implications that this one has (OOC or late season).

I'ts a great time to be a GT fan, no doubt.

IMHO, yes it is, not necessarily because of the performance because of the implications. B/c of this win we are in the drivers seat on the road to Jacksonville.

Is this the best all-around win of the CG era?
Depends on how both teams finish. But, as of this moment without knowing how the season will turn out then I can say pretty easily that it sure feels like the biggest win since Ralph left.

And it will mean a LOT more if we don't have "one of those games" this season. That, to me, will be much more significant than any single victory.

In my opinion YES! Others have already stated why.

Some won't understand this, but a uga win in '05 or '04 might have been bigger in that CG would have won a "hate" game as an underdog. I think that would have been even more important to his development. CG knows how big that game is but until he actually beats them he has a way to go.

If anyone remembers, GOL was despondant about not being able to beat uga until he actually did it in '98. After that glorious afternoon in the cesspool, we expected to win every game. We had Joe and Godsey but we also had a mean swagger.

I think CG gets them this year in Athens, but we will be favored. So, we need to blow them out and then watch CMR take the Miamuh job.

As Techgator has said, I agree that this is probably the biggest win in the CG era due to the point in the season that it has taken place.

GT now sits atop the Coastal division and can control it's own destiny. Even a loss to what I consider the toughest opponent left on the schedule, @ Clemson, will not damage ACC Championship aspirations as long as GT takes care of business within the division.

With this in mind, Saturday's victory was a huge win not only for this season's championship possibilities, but for the future of the GT program in the ACC. This win may have very well catapulted GT into the upper echelon of the ACC for years to come.

I would say this was the most complete performance I've seen by a Chan Gailey-led Tech team.

Agree with GT65 about the implications of the win.

I believe the significance of this win is that it was a quality opponent on the road similar to some of our other big road wins.
However the big difference here is that I really don't think this was an upset.

This win gets my vote. Past big wins were more the result of great defensive efforts. This was a convincing win with offense, special teams, and defense.

I'd rather beat Auburn than Va. Tech. The team played pretty well in the last two Auburn games. But we all remember the last big win.

Beating Auburn was fun, but that doesn't help the Jackets win a conference title. This was the best all-around game I've seen Tech play in a long time.

Yes and the next opportunity to surpass it will be November 25th. THWG

Possibly the best all-around win in quite some time, but the most important game of this season will be this weekend. The emotional high of last week has to show continuation into this weekend and beyond if our program wants to get on the road to being elite.

Put a whipping on a pretty decent looking Maryland team with a week to prepare, and I think GT will have earned National respect . A loss would be considered nothing less than the typical CCG era M-O......follow up a huge win with a lackluster effort. Here's to our biggest win of the season, until the win next weekend.:wow:

**I think many of you are completely missing the point of the thread.**

There are probably 'bigger wins' and Auburn may be one of them. I think the point of the thread is the completeness of the victory - how well we played in all phases of the game. It doesn't have as much to do with the opponent although that is certainly part of it.

Thanks ContactBuzz,
Right,my point was that this was a ALL-AROUND victory with team hitting on all cyclinders, not necessarily the value of the win.
Someone did mention the Gator bowl ND win as maybe the last big game complete victory?Others?

For the record: I don't ever read any posts within two or three posts (up or down) of Vespide's posts, because of his avatar. I have to scroll it off my screen.

Just a case of personal priorities for me. I am more tickled over the Auburn wins since I have a sister and her family over there. She has 4 children all graduates of Auburn, so as you see, I'll take the Auburn win over V/T anytime.

The V/T win is especially wonderful in that we saw our GT team play in a more intense high gear speed than normal. At least that is the way I saw it. Plus the fact that V/T is a team to be contended with no matter who plays them.
